Having 3 piercings, amazingly none of them being my ears, I thought it was time to get my ears pierced. But in the back of my mind came nudging forward my other thought I had played around with: to get an 'anti-eyebrow'. Though at the time I had no idea it was called this though had seen 2 people around with it. For those of you who still might be unsure just picture an eyebrow piercing, now mirror the piercing over your eye and that's basically it!

So with a few friends we went off to Exotic Body Piercing. I asked questions to Jenette and her lovely team, mainly concerns about the body rejecting it. I inquired about the size of the balls on either end if I could have them really small, but they had to be a certain size for the bar that I was going to start off with. Jenette was fantastic and professional giving me all the answers I needed, also informing me with proper after care and checkups that these guys have the highest rate of surface piercings not rejecting. I knew even more so that I had gone to the right place!

Fast forward through a break and chat with friends and I was in the room. The nerves set in as I realised what I was in there for but Jenette is such a bubbly and calming person she made them disappear (as well as very amusing pictures of pierced cartoon bunnies on the wall!!). The room was very clean and welcoming and appropriate sanitization was used which of course is extremely important.

I decided on a placement quite near my eye on my cheek bone on a 45 degree angle, Jenette informed me of possible bruising due to my choice of location though I was fine with it. I sat down in a comfy dentist-like chair (though thankfully was not at the dentist!) while she washed her hands, put new gloves on, and begun the procedure of showing my each sealed and sterile instruments and jewellery. She massaged the area to be pierced, and let me know what steps she was going to do. First came the clamp, I closed my eyes, remembered to breathe, and the needle went through quite quickly. The jewellery was in, it bled a little bit, and saline solution was put on. It was done! I went to the mirror to have a look and was extremely pleased.

I was given a little cup of jellybeans and walked out of the room and on to Jason who explained thoroughly the aftercare. He also gave us spare sterile packs of saline solution and an aftercare sheet. I was directed to come back in a week to check up, then in 2 weeks and then 4 to monitor the piercings healing progress so the surface piercing would heal correctly. I was informed not to touch the piercing directly with my hands for up to 12 weeks for risk of getting an infection.

My friends walked out pinching the sides of their faces saying how much is must have hurt – it was nothing like pinching your face at all, it was over very quickly and the pain was only very slight and all you could really feel was the clamp and then the sharp prick of the needle.

A few hours later the area feels slightly swollen when I smile, no bruising has happened, and any redness that I had before I vanished. I was also expecting it to hurt afterwards when I smiled or ate but it feels fine. 3 days on and I woke up with a slight blue-ish bruise under my eye. Throughout the day it grew without me touching any part of the area at all and ended up a quite big bruise under my eye which was blue. The bruise does not hurt, and the piercing just stings a bit when I wash it with saline solution and a cotton bud (which I've been informed should do that twice daily for 10 minutes, for 12 weeks). The bruise definitely a result of the placement I had chosen for my piercing and was informed this would happen by Jenette. If I experience anything unusual I know Exotic will be more than happy to answer any questions and they are also backed by as much help as needed throughout the whole life of the piercing.

I've encountered a lot of my friends scrunching up their faces in horror saying how much it must have hurt (even those who have tattoos!!), a few people ask if I stuck 2 balls on my face (?!) and a few people who adore it. Basically I think people just assume you go through hell and back just because it's through your skin on your face, though compared to my other piercings it was quite pain free!

I am very impressed with the team at Exotic due to their friendliness and knowledge on everything, I definitely recommend anyone whether it be their first piercing or 20th piercing to go there. I'll be back to get my ears pierced next time!
