Since I was 10, I'd wanted my eyebrow pierced. I don't even remember the first time I saw it, I just remember that I'd always really liked them. It's only been a week, but I know my four years of waiting were way worth it. The first step was convincing my mom. Trust me, this was far from easy. The key is patience, because the begging started around 9 months ago, and 9 months is how long it took.

I had heard nothing but good things about a small piercing shop nearby, called Westcoast Piercing. I visited their site a few times, and I'd decided that's where I wanted to be pierced. I know I should have gone and seen the place, and asked questions like "do you spore test your autoclave, etc etc" but I didn't. I know, I know, I'm bad. But the site was convincing enough (bad, again, I know). I'd also read very positive testimonials and experiences on BME about them, so my worries were put away. Plus I was really excited and I couldn't wait enough to have a look around.

So I got the phone number and called to make an appointment. I wasn't really that excited, which was weird for me. I thought, maybe once I get there it'll hit me. The hours rolled by like years, and finally it was around 12:30 that my mom and I set out. We first went to subway, because something like the knowledge of knowing you had to eat something prior to getting a piercing was just something you learnt after stalking BME for over 2 years.

We got to the shop at about 1:30 and my appointment was at 2:00. Dirk, the piercer, was busy talking to someone else when I came in. I told him I had an appointment at 2 and he gave me the release forms. I read the sheet and filled out the bottom. It was all about how I agreed that I was not pregnant, not drunk and if anything happened to me, it wasn't their fault, blah blah. On the other side there was a list of things like nickel allergy, dizziness of fainting etc. to check off if you had any of them.

Well, I do faint easily after blood tests and heavy bleeding and such, so Dirk explained to me that if I felt a bit light-headed at all after getting pierced, that I should just tell him and to lie down for a while before getting up. He asked if I had any questions and explained aftercare to me as well. I was also allergic to nickel so Dirk let me choose which color of titanium I wanted. I picked a light blue color and he picked out a barbell that he thought would fit me. I thought it was a perfect size as well, and he told me he'd go get everything ready and then call me in. I looked around at all the jewelry there.

Wow. I don't think I've ever been in a dentist or doctor's office that came close to this place. It was excruciatingly sanitary and clean and it smelled so too. It smelled like a dentist's office, yeah, like everyone says, but cleaner. So after a few minutes, (shorter than I had expected), Dirk called me in. I was still feeling not the least bit nervous, which I thought was still really weird.

He let me sit on this weird chair... it wasn't even really a chair, it was like a padded table with an arch. He asked which side I wanted it on, and I said left. So he marked a starting point for me, just to get an idea of where it'd be. He gave me a mirror to see and I thought it was a bit off so I asked him to move the top dot just a bit over. He did it just as carefully as he did the first time he marked it, with one of those measurement things. I wasn't really sure about the placement, but then again I have a really hard time making decisions, so I decided to go with it anyways.

He let me lie down and explained every single thing he was doing. I watched as he opened the needle and everything. He didn't touch anything with his bare hands, not even the q-tips. He suggested I close my eyes and I did because I really didn't want to see a needle go through my face and end up right in front of my eye. He put on the clamps which were a little uncomfortable, but really nothing especially compared to a lot of experiences I've read that said they hurt. He pushed the needle through and talked to me while doing it, which really calmed me down. It didn't hurt; it really just felt like pressure. Really similar to the feeling you get when you're having a tooth pulled. It's numb, there's no pain, but you can feel it. He put the jewelry through which again, didn't hurt, just maybe a little uncomfortable. He screwed the ball on and wiped my eyebrow. There was a drip of blood I saw him wipe off, but again, there was no pain, it just felt numb. I looked in the mirror and I was so happy to see it. 4 years of waiting. The feeling was so great. I paid him, tipped him, and left the happiest I could be. I couldn't stop looking at it in the mirror on the ride home.

The next day, I expected some negative comments from my friends but surprise surprise. Everyone was telling me that it looked awesome and it was perfect placement. Yes! So I'm a happy camper. As I said earlier, it's been a week and it already feels like it's part of me. I'm definitely getting it redone if it rejects, I'd miss it way too much. I clean it twice a day with soap (once in the morning and once at night) , careful to completely wash the soap out, and then I spray it with magic dragon mist. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I sleep on my right side which is easier than I thought. I was expecting it to bruise or swell up or something the next few days, but it didn't. Maybe it was because of the titanium, I don't know!

Anyways, to any of you thinking of getting an eyebrow piercing, save your doubts for a rainy day. You'll love it, I promise. If you're worried about scarring or having it reject, come on, live for the moment. It won't be a visible scar if you take care of it well, and you can get it re-done if it rejects. I hope you'll make a good decision and check out the place you're getting pierced before you get it, and look around too. Also remember, a good piercing and a sanitary shop won't be cheap, so don't go looking around for the cheapest place you can find. I'd strongly recommend Westcoast piercing to anyone living in or near Surrey, as the service is really good and I'm sure you'll have an overall great experience with them. I'm going back there when I get my next piercing definitely. Lastly, don't forget your good sleep and vitamin C. Ha, 'til next time.
