I am fairly new to the piercing industry, I have been a full time piercer only for about twelve months now and that includes my training so I am fairly new but I am a fast learner and have a good teacher, he was trained by the great Fakir himself. This was my first big opportunity to be left in charge of the studio for about a week and a half and so far, seven days into the stint, all was going perfectly. No unhappy clients, no mistakes, all calm and good, in fact I was thinking to my self that I hoped something a little challenging and unusual comes in. Be careful what you wish for.

Studio Off Ya Tree-Brisbane, Australia Location Brisbane, Queensland, Australia This girl comes in and wants what some staff called the anti-eyebrow but what the client called a "trinity". I have included a picture (I hope) and am hoping that some one out there can settle the debate. She wanted a small bar put in running diagonally out from the corner of the eye.Its all good I said, I can do this, I have never done one before but I reckon I can do this.
I looked up the body atlas to see what was in the area that I needed to stay away from, ok, there's a big vein there but I wasn't going too close to that. Facial piercings bleed a lot anyway so I knew to expect that. I did the mark up and messed around with that until I thought that I had a really good position and really exact marks as I was using a little 16g staple with not much length on the arms for swelling.
I opted to do this with a pair of slotted Pennington's and a 16g needle.I knew I might have a bit of trouble with bleeding, especially in the area around the eyes, I didn't want to do a closed piercing as I figured that it would be pretty difficult to feed it through the piercing. Also not having done this before I didn't want to make things any harder for myself than they had to be.
I positioned my clamps perfectly and then did the piercing, I hit both my marks perfectly too I might add. I fed the staple into the catheter and it went through the piercing like a dream. I released the clamp and the skin stayed bunched up around the catheter. Everything was going perfectly. When I had it through the other side the catheter filled up with blood and started pouring out all over this poor girls face.
Don't freak, I told myself as I said the same thing to her, that all normal, I tell her, it's all good. Inside, I am starting to run things through my head rather frantically. Ok there's a vein there but that's ok, I looked at a body atlas, I didn't think I was anywhere near that. I told myself again, facial piercings bleed a lot, you are used to doing closed piercings that is why you are not used to seeing so much blood. You can deal with this, the most important thing is to get that jewelery in and apply pressure. I quickly removed the catheter and screwed the other ball on and kept the skin bunched up and the elbow of the staple out while I screwed the other ball on and then applied pressure.
It stopped bleeding really quickly, thank goodness. I showed the client and she was thrilled. The position was perfect, the angle was fantastic and it looked so great on her. Believe in your own abilities and don't be afraid to try something you have never done before. It has only been about a week since I did this piercing but The client was so happy with it.
I did explain prior to the procedure that it had a really high chance of growing out and that it probably wouldn't last very long but she didn't care about that, she wanted it anyway. She didn't have a whole bunch of piercings herself so it was probably a really big step for her to take and if she had known that it was my first one she may have thought twice before letting me do it, so if you are reading this, dear client, and recognize yourself, I apologize but I really wanted to do it and the results speak for themselves I think, together we did it.
Hopefully it will last because I would like to see my work walking around for a while. I was so glad to be given the opportunity to do this piercing, I would love to have a go at another one. I have a little more confidence in my abilities now and am waiting for the next challenge to come my way!
