So not too long ago, I decided I wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. Actually, I decided that when I was in middle school seventh and Jonathan Davis had it. Korn was probably my first favorite band...other than KISS when I was really little...and it was through Jonathan Davis that I was first led into, what I would come to know as body modification. But that was about 7 years ago and for some reason or another,(maybe the age factor) I didn't get around to actually having any holes punched into my body until a few months ago.

Anyways, I had known for a while that I was going to have my eyebrow pierced. And the oppurtunity was actually presented through an unlikely source...my mom. We spent the weekend in New Orleans, because we had to pick up two of my cousins from the airport, who were coming to visit for a while. My cousin Vanessa had gotten her nose pierced, which was something new since the last time we had seen her. Nothing major, just a small hole in the nostril, but it was a topic of conversation. A topic of conversation that would lead my mom to getting a tattoo later in the weekend and her best friend getting her navel pierced. Oh, and of course me getting my eyebrow pierced.

We were talking about how my uncle Peter must have reacted when Vanessa came home with her nose pierced. He must have TOTALLY freaked out. Somehow or another my mom got to talking about how she had always wanted to get a phoenix tattooed on her because she felt it represented her personality for whatever reasons. So my cousins, my sister, her best friend, and I convinced her into doing it.

We were in New Orleans for the weekend so of course we decided to have some fun. We did the general bit of Bourbon St. and the French Quarter and we went on a Vampire tour, which was really interesting, and I totally recommend to anybody visiting the Crescent City. That started around 10 if I recall correctly and ended a little before midnight. On the walk to the hotel we came across an area with palm readers, and tarot card readers, and I guess a slew of fortune tellers. We all got our palms read and my moms friend got a tarot reading and it was really cool. The lady that read for us seemed to be really on point with most of what she said. But anyway, she had a type of Anti-Eyebrow piercing, and I thought it was really cool...it was horizontal right on the side of one of her eyes. So I got to talking about it with her and it just so turns out that her brother owns a tattoo and piercing shop on canal st. Unfortunately however, he was out of town for the rest of the month on vacation...bummer. But she did suggest another place that wasn't far from where we stayed. A place called Crescent City Tattoo Shop.

So the next day just after lunch time we find ourselves looking through flash designs and an artist portfolio for a girl named Kelly to find a suiting phoenix for my mom. Didn't have a whole lot of luck with that so we found one that we kind of liked and I went to work on making it good enough for Mum. After a few minutes of reworking the design I pass it off and she's in the chair getting inked.

While we were waiting for the artist to finish up with another customer my mom's friend decided to get her navel pierced...which didn't last long as she got a keloid and had to go to the emergency room in a few days...it almost serves her right for the way she treated our piercer, a fellow by the name of Erik. I was embarrassed to be there with her. She's not a small woman, and he was giving her advice on jewelry on the difference between rings and barbells because of the fold on her stomach the rubbing could cause some irritation. She, I guess took offense to that and thought he was calling her fat and somehow that led to her looking old...i'm not sure. She's kinda crazy but she can be cool. So she's being a bitch to him, and quite well-mannered and passively he's being a bitch back in his tone and comments. So he does the piercing, gets the cash and she's done.

So I was next in line to get pierced. He was agitated with her but we joked it off after she left the room. He was a cool guy and didn't deserve to be put on the spot like so. So, I get seated and show him where I want the bar and he marks it, and makes me check to make sure it's in the right place. Next he swabs on some pink stuff to numb my brow. After a minute or so of joking he clamps it and tells me to breathe in deeply, and as I breathed in he pushed the needle through. I looked in the mirror, and almost wanted to leave it just as it was, but I guess that wouldn't have worked out so well so he puts in the jewelry and we're done. So I walk into the next room freshly pierced with my mom just getting into the chair and show her my new hole. All she can do is laugh because she's about to get a tattoo and can't possibly talk to me about what I've just done. So I have my moment of feeling big and go back to chilling with my cousins. Now we were ready to see my mom go through some pain with a needle being pushed into her back. When the agonizing pain didn't come, we got bored and decided to go eat while we were going to be waiting at least an hour, for her to be finished.

So we went to eat at a place called Copeland's and finally my eyebrow begun to hurt as it was swelling against the jewelry. Not an agonizing pain...just a pain in the ass really. It was more aggrivating than it was painful. The waitress would be the first stranger to comment on it when she told me it was cool, and asked me if it hurt, and told me that she wanted to get her lip pierced. So we feast and flee to the scene of my mom's tattoo where she's just finishing up. Now, I guess you should know that this weekend was spent entirely away from my conservative, suck the fun out of life, buzzkilling father, so coming home was going to be interesting since since the last time he had seen us...Vanessa had gotten her nose pierced, I had gotten my eyebrow pierced, and my mom got a tattoo... he was in shock to say the least. So much that he couldn't even find words to express himself. I expected endless bitching and was madly relieved when all he did was laugh an uncomfortable laugh. So I guess that's my story. Hope you enjoyed. Next week I'm getting tattooed. It's gonna be sweet!!!
