I've wanted my eyebrow pierced ever since I could remember. I've been searching online, looking at pictures, asking friends about their experiences, and doing everything I possibly could to learn about the piercing I wanted. I went down to The Hive (piercing/tattoo parlor here in Washington) with my mom and I was going to get it done right then and there, BUT, the piercer said she wouldn't pierce anyone under 16, even WITH a parent. So sadly, I waited til my 16th birthday.

On my 16th birthday I went back to The Hive and my mom showed the piercer a copy of my birth certificate. The piercer explained how to take care of it once it was done. She told he that bruising/soreness/redness and being irritated was normal while it was healing. But if I took good care of it I'd have little to no problems at all. She also explained how to clean the piercing. It's a good idea to get a shot-glass and fill it full of warm water, add a pinch of sea salt, and then put the shot-glass right over the piercing to soak it without getting water in my eye. It works really well. She also explained that I needed to wash the piercing with a anti-bacterial soap like Provon to keep the germs away and keep it from getting infected. She gave me a packet with instructions on how to clean it, a bottle of Provon, and a little sandwich baggie with sea-salt. (looks like normal salt, but it's not.)

She took me back into a room where there was a big purple chair. I climbed up into it, and she made the chair a little taller (because I'm 5') and she explained everything to me throughly. Not to wear makeup over the piercing, or wear any hair products in my bangs that could drip down into it. She massaged my eyebrow a little. put some of this anti-bacterial stuff on the skin... Measured it with a ruler type thing (sorry I dunno the name) and drew some little dots where she would pierce the holes... She put a clamp over the skin She told me to take deep breaths... I closed my eyes and felt totally calm. She took the needle and pierced it though quick. Honestly, it felt like she had just pinched the skin. I hardly felt anything. I also had my eyes closed the entire time so I'm not quite certain how she threaded the curved 18g barbell in, but she did it fast.

Then it was all over. I opened my eyes. No pain. She handed me a mirror. It looked beautiful. It felt beautiful. I felt wonderful, and I still do. I never felt so calm and so relaxed sitting in that chair. I totally trusted her. She was very friendly and informative, and told me it wouldn't hurt. I think it's very important to feel completely safe and secure when getting your piercing. Although you might feel a little nervous, I assure you... The time you take thinking "oh goodness it's going to hurt so bad!"... The fear you have before it actually happening, is far worse than the real thing. The real thing, felt real. It was amazing. I really enjoyed it.

It's been 3 months now. It's normal for the piercing to ooze a little yellow/white colored stuff and to sting. But if it was REALLY sore, green/dark colored pus and blood than it means it is infected and you need to see someone about it. If it starts rejecting there's not much you can do except keep taking care of it. Soak it and wash it often, but not TOO often or it will make it irritated. When the swelling has gone down, the barbell will look longer than it did in the beginning, but it's normal. It's a good idea to get a shorter barbell. Also, if you notice a bump near the holes, just soak with warm water and sea salt and take good care of it and they should be gone soon. It can also be a hair growing next to the hole that's making it irritated. When that happened to me I just plucked it out with tweezers VERY carefully. If you wanna ask me anything else, just email me. ^_^

On a side note, I plan on getting my lip pierced someday. Maybe not anytime soon but I think it's a beautiful piercing and I would love to have it done. I want the same piercer to pierce my lip, because I feel comfortable around her. Even though I might not know her all that well, she'll be in my memories forever and I really appreciate the time and effort she takes into explaining and making the people she pierce feel comfortable.
