I had always wanted an eyebrow ring. The first one I ever saw was on my cousin, and I was probably about 6 years old. I immediately became fascinated with it. I told my mom I was going to get it done and blah blah blah. She would just look at me. Finally, by the time I was 13, she approved.
At A Glance Author Star When A year ago Studio Rusty Cat Location Daytona, Florida We were going on vacation to Daytona, Florida, and she said I could get it done there. I live in Georgia, so it wasn't that bad of a ride. We got there on a Monday and she said I couldn't get it done then, I would have wait until towards the end of the vacation. So I waited. My friend, Jessie, and I walked across the street that same day to this place called the Rusty Cat. I talked to the guy there and he said that I would have to have parental consent and all that good stuff. He also said that they couldn't do it at that place, but they would get a car from the piercers to pick me up and bring me there and back, free of charge. We went back to our hotel room and informed my mom.I talked her into letting me get it done the very next day, even though we were staying until Saturday. She said I could get it done, she was still pretty apprehensive about it.
Then Tuesday came. I was so ready. I didn't get it done though until later that night, probably around 8 o'clock. We went into the Rusty Cat and told the guy what we wanted. He recognized me and made a little small talk while my mom really thought it over. Then, he talked to my mom to see if she approved. Well, with a shy nod, it was done. At that store anyway. So, he (I know I keep referring to the guy as 'he' but I didn't know his name...he was very foreign!) let me pick out what initial jewelry I wanted and called the piercer to pick me up. I was only offered two types of jewelry, 16g. curved barbells differing in length. I picked the shorter of the two and he put it in a bag. And we waited. And waited.
Finally. The car showed up. We got in and then my nerves started to work up. Pulling out of the Rusty Cat slowly, he locked the doors. Now, that was very eery. There was no radio and the guy would not talk at first. He said it would be about a 5 minute drive to the piercing studio. I asked why we had to go out there and he said because of the rules in Florida, you couldn't be pierced on a certain side of Beach Property. Figures.
We arrived at the studio and met the other piercer there. He was talking to a chick who had just got her belly button done the day before and he wanted to see how it was doing. Seemed like a professional guy to me, I thought. I also didn't get the names of either of these guys, because, yes, they too were foreign. I mean, they understood English and could talk it (duh) but their names...forget about it! Anyway, they had my mom fill out about 2 sheets for her consent. We stepped into the room and it was very clean and I could tell my mom was growing used to the idea. He seated me in the piercing chair, and I immediately noticed he looked like Chris Carrabba from Dashboard Confessional and I told him so. He had no idea who he was. Heh. He explained the procedure to me and I watched him take out the clamp and needle out of the package. My mom then made the comment "I can't believe I'm letting her do this." The piercer, with a small smile, goes "Me neither."
The time had arrived and Jessie was watching very close. The piercer marked me, told me to take a deep breath, and I felt the needle slide through. It didn't hurt at all. I felt a little drop of blood slide down my face, though. The needle was still positioned in my eyebrow as he got the barbell ready. This proved to be a little difficult, for me and for him! He could get that damn barbell through the exit hole. He had to wiggle it around before he found it. Eh...it hurt a little bit but not much. He screwed it in and we were done.
I quickly became attached to my eyebrow ring. After a few weeks of having it, I had to go up to my school to pick up my yearbook. Everyone was surprised. It not only made me stand out, it made people actually realize I wasn't as good as they thought from only knowing me at school.
But, by September, I guess from the constant removal of my ring to go to school (my school doesn't allow anything but ear piercings), it started to reject. It was completely gone within the third week in Sept. However, I didn't give up. I still wanted it and I grew more interested in other piercings. My mom, being the very overprotective one she is, said no to everything I wanted. But she also said I could get my eyebrow redone in the summer.
I couldn't wait for school to get out. So, I didn't. A friend of mine's dad is a piercer so I went to him. Free of charge and everything, I got it redone. He did it on the opposite side now, and it's healing really good. This time, there was no clamp and I notice he did it a bit deeper than before. It looks nice. The only thing that worried me was that I had to take it out every day for school...and it didn't have time to heal. But I got a retainer and used that...And I constantly cleaned it. No problems. This one seems to be more prone to me snagging it on my clothes and bumping it on things, though. Now that school's out, I can leave it in and let it actually heal properly. Oh, and because my mom didn't want me to get it done during school, I was grounded from the time I got it done (April 9th) until school got out (May 26th). Oh well...It was entirely worth it!
