It is almost a year and a half now since my very first piercing was done. It was the summer of 2002, I had wanted to get my eyebrow pierced for quite sometime now but due to very strict and in my opinion unfair rules on body modifications at school I had been unable to do so until I had left school.

Now that I was free from the joys of everyday school live I decided to confront my mum and dad about my wish to get my eyebrow pierced as at the time I was only 16, so they sat me down and had a chat with me all about it just to make sure I knew what I was letting myself in for and that it was what I really wanted. Having now confronted them I was amazed to find that they where all for me getting my eyebrow pierced.

I had heard many good things about a place called "basement body art" in my local town, this also being the place where many of my mates had been for there modifications time and time again which installs confidence knowing that they had not had any bad experiences as of yet and they where always saying how nice the staff where, how nice there work was and I guess the main point which they reiterated to me was how clean the place always seemed, so we decided this was the place where I would experience my very first piercing.

So we decided to go down town to basement body art the following morning, at this stage I remember being so excited yet extremely nervous as I had never had a piercing done before not even my ear had been pierced, so it was quite a step for me to take, a step in the unknown if you like. As we approached the building my heart was pounding I was so nervous, we walked thought the main door to the building, which led to the basement hence the name basement body art, and to my horror there was a sign on the main door reading sorry closed today, I could not believe my luck, so we would have to come back the next morning.

The following morning arrived and off we went and to my delight the studio was open today, so in we went where we where politely welcomed and good timing it was too as straight into the studio we went to get my piercing done. I was sat down in a big chair, I told him which piercing I wanted, he then talked to me about the procedure he was about to do. He was making me feel very comfortable by cracking jokes and just constantly taking to me that most definitely helped to relax me. First he started to clean off the area around my eye/eyebrow, next thing was marking out where I wanted it done, I was more than happy with where he had placed the two little dots first time where the needle would go, then he showed me an unopened bag containing the needle he was going to use (which I'd read many times to make sure they always do in my research prior to my decision to get pierced), next up came the clamping of my eyebrow, which was not all that painful more of an uncomfortable feeli ng to be honest, next I was told to close my eyes and think of nice things at which time I knew he was about to push the needle through, so I did and suddenly I felt a sharp sting for all of a split second which really was not as bad as I expected where the piercing had now been done, and I remember him saying right afterwards are you still with us as I had closed my eyes so tightly. Next up the jewelery (being a standard silver barbell) was placed into my eyebrow, which seemed the hardest/most uncomfortable part of the procedure to be honest. After this I was then told about all the aftercare procedures, different solutions I can use on it etc I was also given a leaflet with helpful does/don'ts on it which I felt was a good touch, and then I paid up about £30 if I remember rightly, and left with a big grin on my face. :-)

Several months passed by and due to my lifestyle involving going to many concerts and many music festivals, including a festival one week after getting my eyebrow pierced which I really should have avoided the following few months after my piercing, let alone going to a festival a week after having it done, where the unhygienic conditions, the constant exposure to the sun are hardly ideal for a fresh piercing, although the main reason my piercing ended up rejecting/surfacing was due to the many number of times it got knocked/bashed at the concerts/festivals during the first few months after getting it pierced but then I knew this was one of the risks you run with having an eyebrow piercing and should have really taken note.

I have learnt a huge lesson and have now realised the full extent of commitment needed to achieve a successful piercing and know this experience at a youngish age will go on to help me hugely with the many piercings I plan on having over the coming months! Thanks for reading..:-)
