Well we certainly picked a good day for piercing's, my friend rosin and i. It was at this years Dublin tattoo convention. I had gone there in the hope of getting both of my cheeks pierced. I've always had dimples when I laugh and I thought about getting them done for ages, I read a lot of other peoples stories in BME and decided that it wasn't going to be that bad! We had a whole day to get them done do we had a look around, met the most tattoo guy in the world who at first thought was blue but on inspection had thousands of little OM symbols on him and was very sweet! Saw some great portfolios, met some helpful people and watched a little bit too much of crazy white Sean! So after a few trips around we landed at a place where we could get pierced, we were both very adamant that we would leave with me having pierced cheeks and rosin having her conch pierced.

We flicked through their interesting photo albums and I decided that I would also have to get a vertical bar in the middle of my forehead, even if it left me too broke to go out in the city later! We the chap was finally free he asked me what I wanted done "my cheeks". "That's the most ridiculous piercing ever! It's not an instant one!". I then told him how I loved the idea of putting a vertical bar in the middle of my forehead and explained to him how I have had my eyebrows pierced about 6 five times already and they grew out. He then did what no other piercer did and measured my skin, with my past history in mind he recommend that I didn't as I have very tight skin and it would no doubt follow the others and grow out. I was starting to panic and had to go away to think, I had to get something done but what? Later I returned and asked for two vertical bridges just at the beginning of each eyebrow. He told me that I did not really have a strong brow to support it, my skin is you could say taunt from my eyes to my eyebrows! I loved the fact that despite my disappointment these guys we not willing to agree to what I wanted, take my money and let me regret the loss about 6 weeks later, it really was professional of them, even if it was disappointing! However, I was adamant that I should have the vertical bridges done so I told him to go deep!

He put on his gloves and checked to see it there was any pulse in the way. Telling me that if it were hit I would end up with two big black eyes! Also to make sure that the piercing would lie on it as it would be uncomfortable. He tightly pinched some skin in the area and asked me how I felt, if I felt tingly then it was likely a pulse, if it just felt like someone pinched you.... That is all it was! This is also something that no body piercer ever bother to check before despite have so many done before in my eyebrows, and that's not all! Because when he went to do the markings he measured them to make sure they we perfectly symmetrical! Gloves on and needle out he set off to pierce me. He did not use a clamp as he said that he did not believe in them! He took his time and slowly put the needle through, despite me saying "come on, just jam it through!" it did not hurt it was just uncomfortable, especially with the top of my eyes being so close! But he wanted to do it properl y! The bar he put in was thin, it was 1.2mm usually I had 1.6mm bars put in. I hope that this would mean it would also contribute to longevity. Piercing finished, I looked into the mirror and it was perfect! I handed him his well earned twenty Euro and we left.

I could not say a bad word about the experience but it was not all happy sailing when I got home. A problem I have is sleeping face down on my arms. By the end of the week, the skin had swollen and both of the bars were starting to sink beneath my skin. It looked like there was only one ball above each brow which wasn't so bad but it was painful and in the interest of hygiene I took them out and tried to put in two other bars that would have plenty of room and hopefully heal. Not stay open and get infected. The only bars I could find were 1.6mm so it was a bit of effort; I cleaned the area, the jewellery and my hands very well with savilon and warm water. I ten tried to squeeze the bars in but had a lot of trouble. They would go halfway in and then nothing. Frustrated I managed to roughly jam then in out of impatience, pain and frustration.... And a lot of ice! Then I woke up the next morning looking like id been in an awful fight with two very swollen and blue black eyes! M orel of the story? If you have the fortune of meeting some very experienced and professional body piercers, pain attention to what they have to say! And if you have any doubts at all don't wait until its to late to discuss them with the body piercers!
