When It just happened
Artist Owen
Studio Chameleon Piercing and tattoo
Location the Garage, Harvard Square, Mass
This makes my 15th piercing. I have always thought about piercing my eyebrow, and since tongue web piercings are illegal in Cambridge,MA I needed to pick something else and that seemed like a good choice. I walked from my dorm to the piercing studio, and it was snowing, which I figured could be good since my face would already be numb from the cold. When I got there I looked around for a while and contemplated my piercing and finally I decided to go for it. I started out asking if they do tongue web piercings (No) and then I decided I needed to pick something else. It had been more than six months since my last piercing and I was going through withdrawals and I really wanted a new piercing. So I looked at prices and I was going to get a conch piercing but I am in the process of gauging my ears and decided not to put them through that much torture in one month. The piercing place is located inside of a building in Harvard Square, called the garage and it houses a few restaura nts, a Japanese anime store, Newbury comics, and The Chameleon body piercing and tattoo studio. They are very friendly and helpful, it is a great environment for piercings, and you feel at ease around the people because of the atmosphere. Unless people with quite a few piercings freak you out a bit then you might be a little more nervous. The cashier talked with me for a while and was very patient and made it much easier to decide what to get.

I decided to go with a captive bead ring not a barbell for my eyebrow, personal preference I guess, I find it easier to clean. Not to mention it is also cheaper. I paid for it and the cashier told the piercer he had a piercing. Owen asked me to wait while he prepared for the piercing. He went in and sterilized a few things and cleaned up in general. Then he called me in... I love this part where the adrenaline is starting to flow and your nerves are getting revved up. Everything was sterile which is really important to me, and he put on gloves after washing his hands right in front of me.

It was a small room, maybe six by eight feet. It had a sink and a few cabinets, a shelf, a medical looking table, and a place where you sit, like an operating table/ Doctors office bed. It was clean and organized. He shut the door and it was time to get pierced.

He asked me which side I wanted the piercing on and I chose left. So he told me what he was going to do and just to breathe normally. He asked if I was allergic to iodine or anything (No) and he cleaned the area thoroughly and then he wiped it down with some sterile gauze and stuff. Then he began by getting the jewelry set up then he pulled out a marker and marked where he was going to pierce and asked me to look it over. I liked the location and angle so he took off the pair of gloves he had on and put on a new pair. Then he got the needle and the cork to receive the needle. He told me to take a deep breath and then breathe out slowly. I took a deep breath and I felt the needle pass through my skin, it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would but that seems to be how it always is. Once the needle was in he got the jewelry and began putting that in. I hate this part it always hurts more than anything else, I think because it pulls a bit, he was very quick though. Once it wa s over and the jewelry was in he had me pick up a mirror and I loved it. He then told me how to care for it and that it would be sticking straight out for a few days and it would be completely healed in 6-8 weeks. Don't touch if you haven't just washed your hands. Clean with salt water and antibacterial soap. The entire general cleaning instructions. They also told me after it was healed they have a good selection of jewelry I can put in, and I looked, they do have quite a varied selection. All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this piercing place and its piercers-who were all certified in piercing and blood borne pathogens and things of that nature, to anyone looking for a piercing place in Massachusetts. I know I personally am going back for another piercing as soon as I can.
