I had been playing with the idea of getting my eyebrow pierced for quite a while now. I'm not a big fan of pain, though. Actually, I'm a chicken when it comes to pain. My parents and younger sister also seem to be disturbed by the tattoos and piercings that I would like to get, so I've been putting it off. I decided that it is my body and I only get one life (as far as I know) and I'm not fond of the idea of regretting my decision to forget all of these modifications that I want to keep the peace in the family. That and the overbearing need for a new piercing finally won out over the short term pain and I decided to get it done on Thursday of last week.

Unfortunately, my sister thinks that I've finally gone around the bend and refused to go with me. She jokingly said that she was going to call my husband and forbid him to go with me, as if that would stop me. I reluctantly decided that I was going to have to wait until the next day and drag my husband along instead. After talking to him about it he told me that he wasn't too crazy about the idea of going with me. He felt too out of place when he went with me to get my tongue pierced, but encouraged me to go alone. So the piercing was delayed another day.
Saturday came and I chickened out until late in the evening. I called and found out that the starter jewelry would be a 16 gauge captive bead ring and would cost $35. By the time I finally made it to the studio, the piercer had left. The owner ran through the procedure and told me to come back Monday, since they were closed on Sundays.
So I had to wait ANOTHER day. Finally Monday rolled around and I left shortly after finishing dinner. I remembered to call and make sure that the piercer would be there when I was 2 blocks away. I went in and right away I felt a little silly. There were four guys in the waiting room going through portfolios and I was amazed that they didn't look too much older than my oldest son. I spent a few minutes looking at the flash on the walls and the jewelry in the case at the front of the studio. I considered leaving but the owner came out with the form for me to fill out.
Eventually Alden came out and took my ID and then led me back to the piercing room. Everything he needed was laid out on his desk on paper towels in autoclave bags or the original packages. He asked which side I wanted pierced (right) and seemed to measure the distance between my eyes or something. He just stood there looking at my eyebrows and I almost giggled from the nervous energy. He pinched my eyebrow a few times and I started to wonder if there was enough room up there for the piercing. He assured me that he was just checking for the best place to put the hoop. He finally marked the spot and asked for my approval. It seemed perfect. I couldn't wait to see it with the actual jewelry. He had me lay down on the table (which I was thankful for, I was afraid that I would try to jerk away from the needle if I was sitting up). I felt a little pressure from the clamps and he turned away to get the needle. I closed my eyes and remembered to concentrate on my breathing and then I felt the pressure of the needle going through. When he turned to get the hoop I assume that he let go of the clamps and I felt a slight burning sensation that stopped when he started to put the hoop through. That just felt like more pressure and that was the end of any discomfort.
He told me that I was done and to take a look. I loved it! It was perfect and looked like it belonged there. I was so thrilled. Alden gave me a sheet with detailed aftercare instructions and told me the highlights. I paid him (including a nice tip, I was so happy with my experience) and was on my merry little way.
It's been two days now and there have been no problems at all. The only pain was the first night when I accidentally bumped it while rolling over in bed. Cleaning it has been a breeze and I just couldn't be happier with my decision.
