I'd been wanting to get my eyebrow pierced for a really long time, but sadly, my parents are strict conservatives and told me that I couldn't do it while I was living in their house. Added to that, was the fact that my high school had a strict dress code that allowed only ear piercings.

For about a year and a half I gave up on getting pierced and only thought about it seriously when I moved out to go to college in August. I spent a lot of time considering actually doing it, reading other people's experiences, looking up the risks, and trying to find a good place to do it around here. Finally I decided that I was going to do it. I still expected it to hurt really bad, but decided it was going to be well worth the pain.
One day after class, I got my friend Elvia to go with me to Poking You. I didn't know what to expect because I'd never been into a piercing studio before. The people there were very professional though. The receptionist asked for my ID and had me fill out some forms, and told Joshua that it was an eyebrow piercing. I waited for a few minutes while he set the room up and kept getting more and more nervous.
Finally he told me he was ready, and I went back to the room. He had me sit on the table (I felt like I was at the doctor, he was even wearing scrubs) and he cleaned and marked where he was going to put it. He had me look in the mirror to see that I liked where he was going to pierce me, and after I let him know that I did, he had me lay down on the table. He talked to me for a few minutes, asked if I was nervous, and assured me that eyebrow piercings are the least painful piercings aside from the ear lobes. Ok, so I'm laying on the table and I hear him opening things. As I hear him opening the package (I assume it was the needle), I start getting nervous again. I seriously felt like I was going to pass out, but I put on my game face and assured him that I was fine and ready to go with this. He had me close my eyes (which I would've done anyway, there's no way I want to see a needle going through me) He got out the clamps and I expected them to hurt pretty badly judg ing from some of the stories I'd read, but they didn't feel like anything more than some pressure, maybe like if you loop a rubber band around your finger and it sort of starts cutting off the circulation. Then he told me to start taking some deep breaths and when he counted to three he was going to do it. By this time, there wasn't much feeling in my eyebrow region, I guess from the clamps, and so when he got to three, it didn't feel like much more than a pinch. It hurt for maybe half a second before the endorphins kicked in and I just felt really good. Joshua asked me if it was bad, and I was like, "No, not bad at all." Then he told me he was going to put the barbell in and some people thought that was uncomfortable. Honestly having the jewlery put in was the worst part. It pinched a little, and when he was twisting the end on it it hurt a bit, but I was still feeling really good and didn't think about it much. My initial thought was, "Dang, I like this, I could do it again right now!" Then he had me stand up and go look in the mirr or, and I absolutely fell in love with it. He talked to me about aftercare, made sure that I knew how to clean it and everything, and had me go sit in the lobby for a few minutes to make sure I was ok. I went out and showed Elvia and she couldn't believe it didn't hurt. I sat out there for a few minutes and he came to check on my to make sure it wasn't bleeding and that I wasn't feeling woozy and said I could leave. The healing process wasn't bad either. It oozed a little bit of blood the second and third day after I had it done, I bruised a little on my eyelid, and it swelled slightly. Within the first five days it looked normal though.
My parents took it much better than I'd thought they would when I finally had to let them see it at Thanksgiving, and just this week, I went back and got Joshua to help me change my barbell for the first time. It was a completely enjoyable experience, and from the moment that I was pierced I knew I was going to get something else done. Next week I'm planning on getting my labret, but if you're wondering, like I was, whether the piercing is going to be painful or not, take my word for it, it hardly hurts at all, and what little pain there is is more than worth it.
