Ever since I was a little kid I have wanted piercings and tattoos. Two summers ago I begged my mom to let me get my lip pierced...but was let down when she said no. So I waited, thinking off all the different piercings I can get and all the places I can put them. Then last summer, I decided to take matters into my own hands and pierced my own nostril. Every since then I've wanted more and more. So I finally decided the next one I need is my eyebrow. Very simple.
At A Glance Author Sarah Contact Sarah@bme.anon When A week ago I was going to order some jewelry online and use that, but luckily my friend bought me this spiked curved barbell. So then I had to wait. I thought the best time to pierce it would be the Christmas holiday break because I go to some stupid Catholic school were facial piercings are definitely not allowed.
Finally Friday, the last day of school, came and I decided to do it. I had borrowed a 16 gauge safety pin (not the best idea, but it worked for my nose) from my buddy. I waited for my parents to go to bed. My mom knew what I was going to do, but did not want to know anything about it. My dad had no idea. I boiled the needle and jewelry to sterilize them, and then went into the bathroom. I shoved some toilet paper in the drain of the sink to make sure that if I dropped the jewelry, it would not go down and get lost forever.
After cleaning the top and bottom of my eyebrow with an antibacterial wipe, I marked two dots, one for the entrance and one for the exit hole. I got myself all pumped up, grabbed the needle and began to shove it through my skin. I did it pretty slowly because I was afraid I would over look the exit hole and end up piercing my eyelid. Surprisingly, it did not hurt at all. But I did realize how tough it is to push metal through your skin because I was having some trouble getting the safety pin through the last layer of skin. So one, or two, huge shoves and a little POP sound and it was through. Yes! But this is definitely not the end of the story.
Because now I had to get the barbell through... and damn that pissed me off. Although the safety pin and the barbell were the same gauge, I was having a damn hard time putting the barbell through. It came to the point were the entire shaft of the barbell was in my skin but it was not coming out of the exit hole. So I pulled the barbell out and shoved the needle through again. There was another POP sound as I re-pierced the same area. Then I tried to push the barbell through again. Again the entire shaft was in the hole but the god damn end would not come out of the hole. I pulled the barbell out and decided to try again later.
The next day my eyebrow was a little sore because I had been pinching my eyebrow pretty hard the previous night to make sure the safety pin went through correctly. I was supposed to go to some family get together at my aunt's house. I only had an hour to get ready to leave, but I suddenly thought now is a good time as any to try piercing myself again. So I boiled and sterilized the safety pin, jewelry. Cleaned the area again too. Looking in the mirror, I found out that I did not like the area I pierced it in the day before. But I still liked the exit hole. So aiming for the exit hole, I placed the needle to my skin beside the previous dot and pushed. You get used to the "popping" sound after a while. Unfortunately for me, the barbell was still being a bitch, and I could not get it through the exit hole again. Oh well, better luck next time. I knew that I was not going to give up until I had my eyebrow pierced. I went to the family thing with a very sore eyebrow that my "loving" cousins decided to hit for the fun of my pain.
Let's see, three days later I wanted to pursue my project. I gave my eyebrow a little time to heal up, so it was not so sore. Then I got all of my equipment out again. Boil...CHECK...Clean...CHECK... pierce... I was going to do it this time. I was set out to pierce my eyebrow not matter what. This piercing will be mine. I'm so dramatic. I liked the placement of my previous effort, so I decided to use the two little marks as my guide lines. The safety pin went in effortlessly. Instead of taking it out to replace with the barbell, I closed the pin. Then I went to look for some ice. Seeing as we did not have any (perfect timing), I used the next best thing. There was a jar of ...something in the freezer, so I just held that up to my eyebrow, to bring down any swelling. I kept moving the safety pin up and down, back and forth to open the hole larger. About two hour later, I thought it had been in there long enough and it was time for me to attempt the dreaded barbell. I gently pulled out the safety pin, while at the same time pushing the barbell into the openings. It slid right through!! I was so HAPPY!! I put the end on, and then clean the area.
I couldn't be happier about my eyebrow. It's been two weeks and everything is going well. I plan to do my belly button next, then my lip in the summer... by myself of course. But maybe this time I will order some real needles. I don't recommend you do your piercings by yourself because it's not the brightest idea and they could get very infected, I have just been lucky.
