What not to do with your eyebrow.......

My name is Jeremy. I got my eyebrow pierced around six months ago. I love eyebrow piercings. I think that's what influenced me to get my brow pierced.

It all started when my brother came home from college. We wanted to do something together since we don't get to see each other a lot. So we decided to go get our eyebrow's pierced together. No big deal. I love piercings. So we went to go find a shop. Our first choice shop was closed. So our mom said, "hey why don't we stop in over there, I know one of the tattoo artist." So we dropped in real quick. I immediately looked around. The place looked pretty clean and not all run down. So we went up to the counter, told the spokesperson what we wanted and he quicker called the piercer up. We filled out some forms about our health and what not. We walked into the back and I told my brother that I would go first. He went through all the steps and explained everything, then cleaned me, and then marked my brow with the violet. I checked, liked the placement and he put on the clamp. Then he got out the needle, lubed it up, and went on with it. After he pierced it, he chased out the nee dle with the curved barbell. This is where you want to stay still for a while. After he put on the jewelry before he could say anything, I stood up and went to look in the mirror. This is why they tell you to eat before you go. I felt a little woozy and went ahead and kinda took a spill. Then I sat down. It was kind of funny after the whole thing and after my brother got his done we left.

I knew that starter jewelry wasn't very appropriate to wear for a long time, so after it healed, I went ahead and ordered some new jewelry. I was checking out all kinds of curved barbell's, all in which I liked. I found one that I particularly fell in love with. It was a stainless steel piece. It was internally threaded, and what caught me was the large spikes on the ends. I loved them. So I went ahead and ordered them. I got the jewelry in about two weeks. I got it in without a snap, and loved it. It was awesome looking.

About a week later I was cleaning my brow and I noticed a small indentation on the top hole. The dent was tiny and not very noticeable. I payed no attention to it and kept on with my routine. Just for a side note, I tend to roll a lot in my sleep and also sleep on my face. This tends to cause a problem.

Then that summer, I moved, nice new place and everything. Great times. But when I would wake up, I would tend to notice more and more deep of a indentation. It started to create an uproar in my head cause I like everything perfect. I examined the jewelry. The spikes had a pretty good sized diameter flat side on the opposite side of them. And, this was being forced against my flesh. It still wasn't that bad, so I didn't pay anymore mind to it.

After a while this jewelry got to be a little uncomfortable. I would move it around a lot to get it in a comfortable position and what not. Then when I would wake up, I would notice some small blood crusties. I knew that some occasional crusties was normal, so whenever it would happen, I would just clean them off. Then I would notice some bloody crusties. This kind of confused me because I didn't really understand what was happening. Eventually, I noticed that the indentation was getting deeper and deeper and more and more uncomfortable. I pondered on the fact of ordering new jewelry, but it never came into a big enough factor for me to actually go through with the order. My advice to anyone with an eyebrow piercing is to buy more than one piece of jewelry for your piercing. Then whenever you come into these kinds of problems, you can just change it out. But me, no, I'm hardheaded and never ordered new jewelry. But I still liked my spikes, and I didn't want to get rid of th em. So I just kept on denying the fact that there was a problem with my eyebrow. I think this was because I became very attached to my eyebrow, it seemed as if my brow piercing gave me a new outlook on things and helped me in a zenful way. My piercings kind of calm me and make me. So I didn't make a big deal about the small dent on my top hole of my brow. Even though I wish I had now.

Recently, I have gotten the flu, and gotten very sick. For a few days I decided to stay home. I decided to stay home and sleep. And I did. But it was a bad idea for my eyebrow's sake. On that one Monday, I had slept in for quite a while. When I woke up, I went into the bathroom and washed my face. I looked up and was very surprised and upset. When I was sleeping, my spikes had gotten caught onto my pillow and ripped the top hole down to make more of a long strip instead of a hole. I immediately cleaned off the long line of blood from across my eyebrow. very upset, I went back to bed. A few hours later when I woke up, I examined my eyebrow again. I had noticed the long rip and was surprised as much as pissed off. I thought my brow was ruined. But I left it in after I had cleaned it up. After that, my brow started to reject the jewelry. I observed this, everyday when I would wake, the skin overtop the barbell got thinner and thinner. This really set me off. But I still left i t in. And then, today, the day I am writing this, December 24th, 2003. I looked in the mirror, just to see thinner skin and more blood. After I cleaned it off, I noticed that the long rip, had turned blackish to be infected. I was very pissed. So I took out the jewelry only because it had caused such a problem. If the infection was inside the tunnel, I wouldn't have taken it out because everyone knows that taking it out can only make it worse. I decided to do something stupid. I figured out that I should clean off a needle and kind of tear the infected area open and clean it. Yes, a stupid decision but I am willing to do whatever it takes to have no infectious areas on my body.

My advice to anyone is, do not get long spikes for any piercing that can be ripped, torn, or pulled at in anyway. And if you do want spikes, only wear them on certain occasions and not all the time. And don't switched them out everyday either. That will just irritate the piercing. And whatever you do. If you get an infection, don't take out your jewelry because that will trap the infection inside your flesh. Just continue cleaning it with either Provon or with salt soaks. Just whatever you do, don't do what I did, and wear any kind of jewelry that is uncomfortable. That's my story, and well, that's my story.
