Having my eyebrow pierced was a matter of concern for me. I am not one to like anything near my eye, not even my own hair. The thought of having a ring hanging there just did not appeal to me, even though I loved the look of it. Then one day it hit me like a ton of bricks. A light bulb went off in my head. I could have it pierced with a small curved barbell!! Why had I not thought of this sooner?
At A Glance Author Amy Contact waterdolp@aol.com IAM YoungMom When A week ago Artist Lori Studio New Breed Location Richmond, Indiana The day I decided to have it done was the day I had to retire my nipple ring. I was feeling rather disappointed and just decided to go on and have it done that night. I told my husband on my plans and he did not have much to say about it. I do think he is getting used to the fact of me having more holes put into my body. I went on to work with that feeling of anticipation in my gut. I could not wait until my shift was over.
I called Lori on my lunch break to see if she could do it that night. She said that she could and even told me she would wait on me to get off work to get there. My shift ends and the shop closes at the same time. I managed to continue working, very hard and very fast. I was eventually able to leave early. I made the trip across town, excited as a school girl.
I got there and she greeted me and showed me my selection of small barbells to choose from. After careful consideration I decided to go with a 16g small barbell that had my birthstone, aquamarine, in each of the balls. She took it out of the case and as the autoclave did its thing, I filled out the necessary paper work and handed over my ID to be photocopied. And then my moment of glory came and she told me to follow her back to the piercing room.
I felt very at ease with Lori, as she has done my septum and nipple piercings. So, we chit-chatted while I watched her wash her hands and take everything out of the packaging and prepare to pierce me. She dabbed some ink on my right eyebrow with a tooth pick and asked me to look and see if I like the placement. I liked it so we continued. I laid back on the table and waited for the forceps to be applied, but she did not use them. She told me to inhale and exhale and on the second go around she slipped the needle in. No pain, but a throbbing sensation had set in immediately. Seconds later, the jewelry was put in. I sat up slowly as to not pass out from laying flat. I peeped into the mirror once again. It was there!! And it looked so good!!
I followed her out to the desk and paid her the money and gave her a well earned tip. We discussed aftercare for a little bit and she gave me a sheet on it too, with her number on it. I got in my car and headed home. The throbbing continued all the way home and lasted another hour or so. Still it was not pain, just annoying. Then, as quickly as it started, it stopped. I was even able to sleep on the same side that night, and every night since then.
My husband said nothing to me about it when I first got home. Then out of the blue he said it was nothing like he envisioned it to be. I did not elaborate on that. I just asked how he like it. He said he did and it was not very visible. My work has not said much about it either. I just get the usual comments from my co-workers of, "Did it hurt?" They do not believe me when I tell them no.
In the last two weeks I have followed the aftercare to a "T". Cleansing twice daily and I have just started sea salt soaks on it. My advice to anybody that wants to have it done, do NOT touch it afterwards. This is considered a type of surface piercing and is very prone to migration and rejection. I love my eyebrow ring and I want to keep it as long as possible. And the thought of it being in my eye? I cannot even tell it is there! If I look up in that direction I can see a little bit of the bottom ball. But nothing to stress over.
