After going to the bank to transfer my account from Toronto to here in Victoria, realizing I had an extra 100 dollars to spend had me thinking all night about what I was going to spend it on. Then it finally struck me, I'd get my eyebrow pierced like I'd always wanted. I started looking up piercing studios online and the one with the best reputation I could find was Pacific Body Jewelery and Piercing.

I called them up the morning I wanted it done and asked for an appointment at 3. So then I had to find a ride, after asking my dad, my aunt, and my friend.. I called my dad again and convinced him to do it. I also managed to drag my friend along with me! The only condition was that if my Dad drove me I'd have to withstand sitting in the van with my younger adopted siblings all the way there and home.
My Dad dropped me and my friend Melanie off at the Douglas Complex, where Pacific Body Jewelery and Piercing was located, and drove off with the little kids to get ice cream. I walked in and was 20 minutes early which made me feel kind of stupid, so me and my friend sat reading magazines for quite a while. During that time, the receptionist who was also a nail technician handed me the paper work to fill out, with the regular stuff like your name, age.. address. After showing them my Ontario Health Card as ID, we were set.
He told me to come back to his room, where there was what looked like a dentist's chair and tons of piercing supplies in little drawers. He asked which side I wanted done and I said my left.. then he asked if I wanted company and I told him my friend was too afraid to come in with me. So he went out and dragged her in for me! He told me a 16 gauge would look best with my facial structure and put dots where he thought it would look the best, he handed me and asked if I wanted him to change it at all; I didn't, it looked great! He measured how long the barbell would have to be and chose the appropriate one. He then adjusted the headrest and told me to lie back and relax. My friend stood there watching with horror and fascination, I felt like a science experiment! He put the clamp on and adjusted it, then he put the cork underneath and held the needle above it. He told me to take a deep breath through my nose, to breathe as deep as I could as he counted 'one..two..three..' and he quickly put the needle through.
The adrenaline rush was great, my eyes watered quite a bit but to be honest it didn't hurt much at all. Once he took the clamp off and was adjusting the jewelery though, I do admit it was a bit painful. He told me to relax for a few minutes while he went over the aftercare. He said to wash it with really diluted anti bacterial soap twice a day and to more the barbell around in the shower. He mentioned that over cleaning can lead to your body rejecting the piercing and if this happens, he'd re-pierce it for me once. Then I was ready to pay, and show off my new piercing!
So far I've had it for a few days, and it's a bit sore. John mentioned that because there's a lot of little blood vessels around the eyebrow, it might bruise but it was normal. If anything unusual happens with it, he said to come in for him to look at it. I really respected their loyalty to their clients. If I get any piercings in the future I'll definitely consider going there again. I remember him mentioning to me that he wouldn't do a piercing if he thought it looked stupid, because with every person who walks out that door.. his reputation is on the line. I thought it was kind of interesting that he looked so 'normal', wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans and having no piercings himself. I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just used to seeing much more decorated people in piercing studios. :)I put ice on it the other night, and have noticed a small amount of bruising.. but I'm still so happy with my new eyebrow piercing :)
If anybody's considering getting one, try finding a studio that a friend has been to as well, if they're a reputable place check them out for proper cleaning procedures and id checking. Also make sure they listen to your placement ideas, and that they notify you of all the risks before they pierce you. Happy Piercing!!
