I already have a labret piercing, a lower navel, tragus and many other ear piercings including two tunnels, but for some reason the thought of an eyebrow piercing has always scared me! I think it has something to do with the position. Being so close to the eye. I always thought an infection would be really nasty. For these reasons I had never really considered an eyebrow piercing.
My boyfriend and me went to mantra, a sort of tattoos and piercing convention/ freak show. Its not very big and after seeing all there is to see in about an hour you can become quite bored and the idea of a new piercing becomes more and more tempting as time goes by. I had promised my dad on arrival that I would NOT get any more tattoos or piercings...but eventually the temptation became too much. Dale and I went to a small desk reading "blue lotus" and enquired about prices and other stuff.
Bridge piercings are my very favourite piercings ever. It wasn't written on the price list so the man at the desk suggested we go upstairs and speak to Nigel to see if he was okay with doing one for me. My friend Hattie gets pierced by Nige all the time so I was happy to hear he was there. He would give me good advice and answer all my questions; I knew I could trust him.
We went upstairs to the piercing area and waited. A couple who were already sat down told us they were getting genital piercings and one of them wanted his foreskin stretched! They went in and must have been discussing it because the door stayed closed for about 15minutes before a lady from another piercing place asked if I was waiting. As I liked the look of Nige and felt I would be safer in his hands I stupidly told her what I wanted thinking she wouldn't do it! But she said, "Sure we can."
I went in and was relieved when a heavily pierced gentle looking giant emerged from the bathroom. He was the piercer and immediately I felt more at ease. (Don't ask me why but I feel safer with men piercing me.) He was really really helpful which made me feel so much better. He answered all my questions and you could tell he knew what he was talking about. The place looked clean, they had the bins for hazardous waste and all the equipment was packaged. I told him I was nervous about the bridge piercing he said "I should warn you there are important nerves on the inner brows which can cause you to become paralysed." I shrieked and he went on "its safer the further out you pierce on the eyebrow" so he suggested a standard eyebrow. I was so disappointed and he could tell so he said he could do it horizontally for me so it's a little more individual. I thought for a second because id never really considered a vertical eyebrow piercing. I thought of some pictures id looked at on this site and remembered thinking they were really nice so I agreed.
Dale came in with me and the piercer sat me on an adjustable dentists chair. He showed me the bar he would use, a small straight bar. He then took the needle out of the sealed packet and the rest I didn't watch.
He asked me if I preferred just above or just below the eyebrow. I said below. I then felt a light pressure as he clamped my eyebrow. Then it hit me he wasn't going to numb it. I began to panic, but he quickly explained it is virtually impossible to numb the eyebrow. This confused me, as I was sure I remembered people telling me the eyebrow was usually numbed, but I trusted him anyway. He wiped me and then I closed my eyes again as I saw the needle.
I waited for the pinch but as the needle went through all I felt was the tiniest pressure and then a little sting as it penetrated the other side. It was amazing and virtually painless. He then put in a bar threw away the needle in a yellow bin and gave me a mirror. I loved it and I still do.
It's really small and people don't usually notice which could mean it suits me. It hasn't migrated and touchwood everything seems to be fine. I think because its horizontal its not easily caught on things so it's healing really nicely. It's gone a little crusty but I'm looking after it properly and it's not sore in the slightest. I seriously recommend this piercing to anybody who is thinking about having it. Its hassle free, painless and looks really cute. I'm now thinking about another just below it.
