I had my first needled piercing a little over a year ago, it was a present from my very open minded mother for my 15th birthday. (Cute, right?) Since then I have sort of realized that you actually need to put a lot of thought into mods that you want done, women especially for two reasons; for one, we can be a bit fickle at times, and two, well, our bodies are much more beautiful and it would be a horrible waste to have a mod that could be better. Anyway, having been annoyed a little bit by the mm off placement of my first piercing I decided to be more careful with the rest of my modification.

I saw anti-eyebrows for the first time in person about a year ago on the girlfriend of some guy I know. Mind you that this women was not very attractive at all, but the anti-eyebrows really complimented, even exaggerated all the good features on her face. Hers were angled down (parallel to the arch of the eyebrow) half and inch long and had pretty balls. I thought they were so great, I loved them, and kind of wanted them. Unfortunately, they began to reject within a week, which scared to hell out of me. At that time I thought it would be best for me to only get piercings without a risky rejection rate.

I have spent a good deal of time in the last year learning more about modification, particularly piercing, which has made me more prepared for what I decided to do: Venture back to the idea of anti-eyebrows. I was more comfortable with the surface piercings after becoming more educated about them, and decided that sweet 16 was the perfect time to get my first one. It was about two months ago when I started calling shops.

Most of the places I called did not even know what anti-eyebrows were, which I found deeply disappointing (piercers are supposed to know more about piercings then 16 year old girls) but Milwaukee is not a city with an abundance of talented piercers as I have come to find out. Several places I called were not comfortable doing the piercing because of the placement (Facial scarring and whatnot). When I called Altered Evolution I was very relieved to be able to speak with someone who knew what I was talking about, was perfectly happy to do it, and had done it before. Really I should have kept calling other places and then done research on the shops, but I was really sick of making calls, and I had a good gut feeling about Altered Evolution.

A few days after my sweet 16, my mother took me to get my birthday presents, one under each eye (piercings for my birthday seems to be growing into a family tradition). I was pretty nervous, since it was my first surface piercing and getting the "oh my god I don't want to do this but I'm really excited about doing it" feeling, all part of the fun. With the discretion of the talented piercer, Brandi, I decided on 16gauge 1/2 inch curved barbells with huge balls, and proceeded to the back room to be marked.

The marking went quickly, thank god, because I was becoming more nervous as time went on. I had them angled up to follow the contour of my cheek bone. My mom (who was watching, and kept trying to make me laugh), Brandi, and I agreed on placement after only a few markings and I was ready to be clamped.

After the right one was pierced I was so relieved that the pain was much less then I expected. As it turned out the left one ended up hurting a little more, but was still more comfortable then the right one all together, because I stopped with the being scared, tense and clenching my fists and toes and whatnot. The jewelry insertion was just as easy, no real pain or even pressure and no taper required (good thing I didn't go with the surface bar, ouch!). I sat up and looked in the mirror and could not stop smiling, they were exactly how I wanted them.

Afterwards they explained aftercare, in addition to giving me a little aftercare booklet including dos and donts, a little info on why certain products are inappropriate for healing piercings and stuff like that. I left the shop very happy and very impressed. I gave business cards to all of my friends and insisted that they make the trip to the west side of town for all of their future mods. One of my friends has so far for a surface piercing on her belly and she was also very impressed.

My anti-eyebrows are healing nicely, the swelling, bruising, soreness and redness has been negligible. The right one has looked slightly more irritated for a while, but does not appear to be migrating at all and does not hurt so I'm not to worried. I will do an update going over the healing process when my buddies have been in my face for a little bit longer.

Wish me a happy sweet 16, it was July 24th.
