Well, to start off with, I had been into piercing for years before I decided to get this piercing. In junior high I was my own human pincushion and gave myself my own personal menagerie of holes in my body, including at one point a standard eyebrow as well. When I got into High School, I fell out of this phase and removed every single one of my (8) self-done piercings, which for the most part left miraculously tiny piercings. Still, I would never recommend self-piercing to anybody. After getting my first work done at Infinite, I realized that the piercer's know-how and experience really makes the price of a piercing worthwhile. In retrospect, I can't believe I ever did it any other way.

But like they say, body modification is addictive! And less than a year after taking out my piercings, I was craving the feeling of metal going through skin. Taking my last (slightly traumatic) self-piercing experience into consideration, I decided that I would go to a professional. I re-evaluated all the body parts I had once pierced to try to decide what piercing I wouldn't get tired of again. I loved the look of my eyebrow piercing, but I've always hated how shallow eyebrow piercings tend to look. I ultimately decided that I'd remedy this problem by getting my eyebrow pierced in a place where a slightly deeper piercing would be possible --the inner corner of my left eyebrow. Never seeing anyone with this piercing, I spent a couple days with the balls from a barbell glued with cosmetic glue to the spot I was considering "testing," to see what I thought of it. (I would recommend this to anyone considering a piercing, it honestly helps. If I hadn't "tested" many of t he ideas I had for body mods first, I know I would have more than a few regrettable pieces of jewelry or scars on my body!)

When I was sure I that it was what I wanted, I followed the advice of a few good friends and drove to Infinite in Philadelphia with my mother in tow (being 16 at the time, she was still a necessity!) The staff at Infinite was wonderful. I had several of the piercers and shop people talking to me about the studio, its safety measures, credentials, jewelry and pricing. They made me feel right at home and even more excited to get my eyebrow piercing. After consulting with a few of the piercers there about my piercing, Megg took me back into one of the impeccably sanitary piercing rooms. She marked two spots on my eyebrow with a toothpick so I could pick the best spot for my piercing. After that, she opened the piercing needle and jewelry (a stainless steel 16 gauge curved barbell) from their sterile packs, and ordered me to lay back in the chair. After closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths as I was told, I felt a pinch as the needle slide through... and felt a wa rm stream of blood rush down my eyelids. After another few seconds, I felt the jewelry go in. She wiped the blood (which turned out to be miniscule) from my eye and when I opened my eyes, I couldn't have been happier with what I saw. The piercing looked like I was born with it; it fit my face so well.

I couldn't get over how painless and fast the piercing process had been. This was my first professionally done piercing --before this, I had thought that piercings were SUPPOSED to hurt like Hell and take an hour and a half to get the needle through!

After sitting for a few minutes, drinking a glass of water, and going over aftercare I was released back into the world with my new piercing. Oddly enough, the only initial problem I had was that the piercing threw off my center of balance slightly, but after an hour or so I was steady enough to brave the mosh pit of the concert I was to attend later that night.

Being more of a surface piercing than a normal eyebrow, it took almost a year to heal completely, but it was worth it! Although I get a lot of questions about it, I absolutely love my eyebrow piercing, and will hate to see it go. When I first got it, the running joke among my friends and I had been that the moment it finally healed would be the moment it started to reject. But now, almost three years later, my piercing is still beautiful without any hint of rejection.

For anyone in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend Infinite. Their work is amazing, the staff is great--they're honestly there to help you. I've gone back for help with my piercing, new jewelry, and more piercings, and I've never, ever been disappointed.
