After performing my own smiley piercing, my mom wasn't too happy, especially because it was an oral piercing. And when my friend Hayley invited me to go down to Sacramento for Warped Tour with her in July, my mom made me take it out, and I agreed...but on one condition: I could get another, non-oral, piercing. My mom agreed. I couldn't decide between an eyebrow piercing and a rook piercing, but I finally chose eyebrow.

After 3 weeks of waiting (first I didn't have the money, and then I went to southern California, where I would sleep on the floor, so I waited until after that) the night had come...the night to get my eyebrow pierced! So after much begging and weed-pulling, on a Wednesday night, off to the piercing place we went! (because the piercer asked me not to, I will not put the name of the piercing place or the piercer on here) When we walked in, there were three people sitting on one of the couches. Me and my mom plopped down on another. There was a girl standing halfway in a room where her friend apparently was, yelling at someone on the phone (which I found quite entertaining). When the girl and her friend walked out discussing their new nipple piercings, the piercer (we will call her Mary from now on, that is not her real name) motioned the other girl back and her mom and what appeared to be her boyfriend back into the room, where the girl (who looked exactly like one of my friends, only older - she wasn't related to her, I asked) got the second set of holes in her ear. She walked out and paid, and as they left Mary said, "Oh, you're not with them? Well, okay, what would you like pierced?" I told her my eyebrow and reminded her that I had been here a couple weeks before to ask some questions, which seemed to jog her memory. She showed me the jewelry and told me that the curved barbells (what I wanted) were $6 more, and although I didn't have $6 more, my mom let me borrow $6. After picking a 16 gauge curved barbell with dull spikes on the ends, she gave us some paperwork and asked for both of our IDs, which she copied and had us sign next to.
She walked me into a small room and told me to sit in a chair that looked like a recliner you'd have at home. I followed her instructions. She commented on how she liked my eyeliner (I was quite bored so I had done blue eyeliner with black dashes on top of the blue) which made me feel a little more at ease with her (it's hard to feel comfortable with someone who is about to stick a needle through you that you barely even understand what the hell she's saying). She pulled on a pair of rubber gloves and dabbed a toothpick in some white stuff on a tray. She then made two dots for the entry and exit points, handed me a mirror, and asked if it was okay, letting me know it would migrate a little from sleeping on it. I told her it was perfect and she told me to lean all the way back and she reclined the chair. She took a pair of clamps, pulled on my eyebrow skin for awhile (to loosen it up?) and clamped the clamps on, which felt like pinching, but not very hard. She asked me t o hold them and grabbed a needle off the tray. My mom asked if that's what she was piercing me with and she nodded. I never saw the needle. I could see her hand by my eye and promptly closed it...suddenly, I felt a hard pinch, which I guessed was the needle going through. I opened my right eye (I was getting my left eyebrow done) to see her walk back over to the tray and grab something and walk back over. I felt the newly pierced skin move a little and opened my eye. My mom warned me not to move, as the bottom spike wasn't screwed on. So I didn't move, and closed my eyes again. I felt more wiggling and opened my eyes as Mary handed me a mirror. I looked at my eyebrow and smiled, a lot...it was positively beautiful! I love my eyebrow. Mary instructed us (in her heavy accent and broken English) to get antibacterial soap and clean it twice a day while moving it gently up and down, at least, that's what I think she said. So after thanking her, we drove right down to Longs Drugs and bought some Softsoap antibacterial soap. Smil ing all the way home and constantly talking (about everything - the happier I am, the more I talk)
As soon as we got home, I dashed outside to show my mom's boyfriend (he liked it!) and went to clip my hair away from it. It feels like it stings a little bit but I still think it's just lovely. I've cleaned it once so far, which wasn't easy because it's quite a tight fit and not easy to move up and down as Mary tried to tell me, not to mention that it's sore. Maybe when it heals a little more it won't be such a tight fit? When I look to my up-left I can see one of the spikes but that's okay, it's just a little bit. I can't wait to go show it off to, well, everybody!
