My love for piercings all started many years ago, probably back when I was in elementary school. I've always loved the fact that you can decorate your body like that. I never actually thought I would go through something like that though - I'd never even gotten my ears pierced until Halloween 2002, when I was 14 years old.

What sealed the deal for me, though, was when my friend came to school one day in 7th grade with a shiny new eyebrow piercing. I thought it was insanely nice looking and from then on I wanted one of my own. Of course when I mentioned this to my parents, they flipped.. pretty understandable considering I was only 12 at the time. But I kept trying. I've always been a stubborn child.

I was kind of turned off from the idea for a while after my ear piercing mishap - never go to Claire's, people. They don't know how to line up the dots, and the process is not clean. No offense if you work there, though. Anyway, I've been homeschooled since the second half of 8th grade, so in late May I figured I'd give it another try. I called my dad and asked him, "if I pay for it, can I get my eyebrow pierced?" To my COMPLETE surprise, he said it'd be fine. The only bad part was that we planned this without my mom or brother knowing.. when my mother found out, she was completely against it but I managed to convince her that it would not be a huge rod through my skull, just a small ring/barbell. She never agreed, and said she had no part in it whatsoever, but I was being allowed to have it done. Yay!

After freaking myself out about it for a week, and looking up every possible bit of information about the procedure, we headed up to Uncle Freddie's on June 5th.. after half a Xanax was taken. Like I said earlier, I've never been a fan of sharp objects, especially if they can be shoved through body parts and cause bleeding and hole and all that. Just.. not for me. But I was definitely going to do this.

When we got to the parlor, there were people waiting around outside for tattoos, and there were some girls lurking around inside as well, waiting for piercings. We paid and picked out the side, size, and jewelry, then waited for everyone else to finish. There were about four or five girls ahead of me, getting their bellybutton pierced. I was finally called back and almost tipped over from nerves.

The nameless piercer [ah, I never thought to ask] told me to sit down in the chair, which I was reluctant to do, and helped my nerves a little bit by telling me it wasn't even as bad as getting your ears pierced. I was happy about this because I'd passed out when I got those done, heh. Anyway, I sat down and put the death grip on my dad's hand. He didn't even look. I guess he's more of a wuss than I am. The whole thing was extremely quick - there was no marking or clamping involved, either. He had a good hand. It felt like nothing more than a small pinch, and then it was over. Once he slid the ring in, he handed me a packet of sea salt and instructions on how to clean. I got up and, without looking at it, wobbled out into the waiting room, holding my hand underneath my eye to make it stop jiggling. No after pain, really, except a little stinging, and the strange feeling that I now had a piece of metal shoved in my face. There was no bleeding or swelling at all, and only a ti ny bruise. Aftercare is a lot easier to deal with than I actually thought it would be - only problem is the confusion as to what products to get, but it's doing well so far. I was such a genius and told them to put it on my right side, which is the side I sleep on. So I've been accidentally laying on it, but it doesn't hurt at all when I do that. I'm also quite paranoid about it rejecting, but oh well. We'll see :)

I have now had it for a little over a month and absolutely love it. Two problems though: I'm going to be going back to public school soon, and also Warped tour, so we'll see how those things go. Next on my piercing list: lip! Everyone was right - body mods are addictive.

But yea, if you're looking into getting your eyebrow pierced, go for it. It's definitely painless, and you'll have a nice little decoration :)
