I have been thinking of getting a piercing for about three months. After turning eighteen I decided that I needed to do something to mark this momentous occasion, so I began talking to my friends and think about the different piercings. I did not have anything done already having chickened out at the age of nine while getting my ears done, so I had no idea what to expect. After much thought I decided that I really wanted to get my tongue pierced. Unfortunately after doing some research online and especially on this site I decided that I wanted my first piercing to be an easier one so I decided against the tongue. I talked to some friends about how an eyebrow would look and after they gave me the thumbs up I decided to go out and do some research.

I looked on this site and talked to people that had their eyebrows done and came to the conclusion that it was the easiest piercing and the least painful. That sounded good to me so I asked my friend to come with me after his camping trip. Tuesday is out to lunch day with my friends so while we were on the street after lunch one of my friends told me that she wanted to get her nose pierced, and that I should get my eyebrow done at the same time. I highly doubted her going through with it, but we decided to go get information. I had been to the store with a friend once before and I had really liked it, it was really clean and bright, and they had a little Zen garden on the table. We talked to the girl at the counter about the price and precautions that went with it. She explained that the rules for eyebrows were pretty basic, do not touch it and try not to submerge it in any kind of pool or pond. I thought that was easy enough, so I decided that I would talk to my friend and come back. Well, she decided to leave and maybe come back again, and she told me to go back with her. I was all set at that point though and it took almost no prodding from my other friends to go back in the store and get it done.
I went back in and picked out a hoop, just a plain silver hoop with a silver ball and got incredibly nervous. I could not believe that I was actually going to do it! After I filled out the forms and the girl copied my ID we sat down and I played with the Zen garden while we waited. The wait was very short and soon Jeff was ready for me. I asked if my two friends could come in the room with me, fully expecting him to say no, or that only one could but he said sure and led us all in. He asked me to sit down on the table in the middle of the room, which kind of looked like the tables they have in the doctor's office. After I sat down he handed me a pamphlet that explained the care instructions and began to explain what he was going to do and what everything was. After he explained each aftercare guideline and the procedure he asked if I had any questions, which I was very pleased with. I had become very curious about how I would deal with washing my hair, but he said that the s hampoo and conditioner should not irritate the piercing as long as I used the saline solution when I was supposed to. After I chose my left eyebrow (due to sleeping habits)I was ready to go.
He explained everything that he did, even telling me when he was simply swabbing my eyebrow with alcohol, and then explained to me that he would pierce it at an angle rather than straight so that it lay flatter rather than sticking straight out. After that he told me to lie down and put my head at an angle making sure that it was comfortable for me. He changed his gloves for the third or fourth time and then took out the needle. He showed it to me and then explained the he was going to massage the spot for a minute then tell me to breathe in deeply and on the breath out he would begin. I breathed in and on the breath out he pushed the needle through the underside of my eyebrow (He had explained earlier that he goes from bottom to top to avoid going towards the eye, which I thought was very smart) and then told me to breathe again as he pushed it through the top. I was very surprised because it simply felt kind of like getting a shot at the doctor's when he first pushed it in but when it went through and sat there for a minute it stung a little. Not too badly though, and he was nice enough to ask how it felt while he got the ring ready. When he pushed that through it stung a little more although the only part that actually hurt a little was when he put the ball on because it pushed slightly on the ring. After asking me how that felt he told me that I was done and to sit up slow and see what it looked like. I loved it. He explained the care once again to me, and then let me go telling me that I should be very proud of myself for not even wincing (the one thing that I was afraid that I would do).
As I left the store I was pretty proud of myself, it was a little sore but it was not bad, it had not hurt nearly as much as I thought it would (I am not good at all with pain I avoid any form of it at all costs usually). Plus I now had this wonderful new piece of jewelry that meant something to me.
I have not had it for more than a day yet, this is my first night but I have to say I already highly recommend it, it does not hurt much and it is relatively easy to care for. The one thing that was hard though was not touching it when it got sore although washing it with the saline solution makes it feels a lot better. I hope that this helps anyone that is thinking of getting this piercing!
