Hiya! Just a bit of background for you guys before you read on. My dad is in the British Forces and if I had any piercing which he considered 'strange', he would kill me, obviously not literally! On the other hand, my mam is cool about things like this and she would support me no matter what I do to my body.

I thought they looked cool, were practical and they were just for me! My dad went away for six months to Kosovo and I was left with my mum and brother. I asked my mum if I could get my eyebrow pierced and she said it was okay as long as I researched the pros and cons of this particular piercing. I then stumbled across BME and I was instantly drawn into the world of piercings and tattoos. I thought they were all great and me being me, wanted them all done. I researched into every single piercing BME offered. The top of my list was my eyebrow.
I finally convinced my mum three months later that I knew all about the piercing and it was my money, my responsibility etc. I was looking forwards to getting this piercing so much I told my mum to take me on the Friday straight after school so my eyebrow could heal a little over the weekend. My mum said yes without discussing it with my dad because I wanted it to be a surprise when my dad came home.
I had been recommended Alan's Piercing Studio by loads of friends and I knew that if I didn't feel comfortable I could just walk out. I was greeted by a sterile smell as soon as I entered and knew I was comfortable instantly. I walked up to the counter with my mum in a bit of a panic because I didn't know what to expect because I wish I could experience the pain before I went through with this. I told the man behind the counter that I wanted my eyebrow pierced and he asked where my dad was. I told him that he was away and he shook his head and said that he couldn't pierce me without both of my parents consent. I was relieved and gutted at the same time. I left the shop almost in tears.
When my dad came back I mentioned it in passing and he, of course, said no. I left him with the idea for a while to ponder on it. I stopped going on BME and forgot all about the piercing for a while. However, three weeks ago I was talking to some friends and they said that it would really suit me if I had it done so this spurred me on even more. I softened my mum to the idea over the course of the week and left my dad 'til later. I told my mum that I was desperate to get it done and I know that she would be able to help me convince my dad. I heard this quote in a film and recited it to my mum to persuade her to help me. "The man is the head and the woman is the neck and she can turn the head in anyway she wants". My dad is so stubborn when he thinks it is right and thought I was going into this blinded. I told him that I had done all the research and I could even show him BME. He still refused to let me get it done and said that I would look ugly if I had it done. I finally blackmailed him into letting me have it (along with my mums help) because I am eighteen in five months time and said that I will get every piercing possible if he doesn't let me get my eyebrow done now. He gave way thankfully.
I phoned my friend in excitement and told her that I was getting my eyebrow pierced the very next day at Alan's. She said that she was going to get her tongue 'done'. I was so excited that night and couldn't stop talking about it. I persuaded my parents to take me the half an hour journey to the piercing parlour. In the car I was so quiet and so nervous. On the way I asked myself several questions in my head,
A) Why am I getting this done?
B) Who am I getting this done for?
C) Have I done enough research?
D) Will I care what other people will say?
I answered these questions and they were sensible answers.
As we came near to Alan's my stomach was in a huge knot. As I entered I was greeted by that Oh so familiar smell. Surprisingly the shop was quite empty, apart from a man getting a tattoo done on his leg. I noticed that they had had a change around of furniture. I went up to the desk and said that I wanted my eyebrow pierced. I signed a contract and answered some questions on allergies and illnesses. I was given the all clear. I led into a little room and my mum followed, when she got to the door she was told she wasn't allowed in, I was by myself. I didn't mind this at all as my dad had been winding me up on the journey about it being 'surgery'. I was told to sit down on a doctor's bed and he got out a measurer and aligned it on either side of my eyebrow and marked two little dots and showed me in the mirror if it was okay. I smiled and said that it was perfect. He told me to lie down and close my eyes while he changed his gloves and clamped my poor little eyebrow . He asked me if I was ready and I said "Y-y-y-y-yes" in a shaky voice. I took a deep breath and felt a little pinch. I wasn't an eye-watering pinch, just a little pinch! He told me that that bit was the worst bit over and done with. I felt him tugging a little and screwing on the balls. He then cleaned up the holes and put a loose plaster over it. He told me to lie still and asked if a wanted a drink because I was looking a little pale. I drank the drink and sat up slowly. I felt like I had just done the most brilliant thing with my body ever! I was so happy! I paid up the 60 Euros and was given an aftercare sheet with some antiseptic spray. He went over the instructions with me and sterilised the room while I was there.
Opened the door and went out of the room to be greeted with my friend who I had spoken to earlier. She was so surprised that I had actually gone through with it. She was next in line to get her tongue done. I waited for her to come out. She was much quicker than I had expected her to be because I thought the tongue was a more 'serious' piercing. She came out two minutes later with her tongue out and a big grin on her face. She rinsed her mouth out with Listerine and came up to me. She suddenly went really pale and sat down on a chair. The piercer picked her up and took her back into the piercing room and closed the door. I saw her 5 minutes later buying some Listerine and she looked fine.
Today (the day after the piercing) she says she can hardly eat. My eyebrow however is fine! It is a little swollen and I have cleaned it three times today with salt water and the spray he gave me. I need to go back in ten days to get the bar shortened because it is long to accommodate for the swelling. I just hope it won't migrate! I hope this piece has been helpful to you!
