Since I was 12 or 13 I have wanted my eyebrow pierced. A senior at my school had hers pierced I thought it looked really good. The summer after 7th grade I was going to get my nose pierced, but I forgot ID and we never made it back to the studio. When I was 14 I got my ears pierced again at a local piercing studio. After that I got very interested in body modification. Since I am only 14 I couldn't go to BPU (Body Piercing Unlimited), because they wouldn't pierce anyone under 15, even if they had their parents come in. The only thing they would pierce is ears. So I called a tattoo studio and they gave me a number to a place where they did body piercing called Ray's. It took a little while but I talked my Dad into it. I had already hinted it to him by going to various eyebrow piercing websites and leaving it on the history of our computer. He had known for a while how I was interested in body piercing because I went to a body piercing studio to get my ears done, and becaus e I went to websites and bme everyday. I was surprised he said I could, seeing he has never had a piercing. But a few days after I told him we rode bikes down to Ray's.
At A Glance Author Rose Contact citrus_shock@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist Jennifer Studio Ray's Location Anchorage,AK When we got there, there was room where they did haircutting and perms, stuff like that. We had to wait a little while, but then Jennifer took us downstairs, where there was a good-sized room that they used for massage and body piercing. Since I have never been here before, I was not sure what it was going to be like. I was actually really scared. But after going into the room I looked around and saw the autoclave, a case with body jewelry, and a tray that had everything already set up on it for a tongue piercing, but that person missed their appointment. But the place looked very clean and sseemed very similar to a doctors office.
After we filled out paperwork, she told me about aftercare. I go on bme a lot, so I already knew about what aftercare to do, but it doesn't hurt to hear it again. She told me to wash it twice a day with dial soap, and to put some Bactine on the entrance holes after I cleaned with the soap. She said that sea salt soaks were good, but they were a pain in the butt to do. Then I picked my jewelry. I wanted a barbell when I got it pierced, but she didn't have anymore that were small enough for my eyebrow, and she didn't have many in stock because she didn't like to pierce with them. So I chose a small 16-gauge green niobium/titanium captive bead ring. I don't favor rings much because they can get knocked around alot, and I didn't want my eyebrow to reject the piercing for as long as I could keep it from doing so. But then she looked in this other big bin and found 2 barbells that were a good size. So I picked them instead.
Then she cleaned my right eyebrow with betadine, which is the same thing that surgeons use to clean the skin before surgery. Then she used a toothpick type thing, and some ink stuff in a cup to mark my eyebrow. It was pretty good, but I asked her to pierce next to the dots because it was slightly close to my eye. But she explained to me how it needed to be on the brow and pierced where there was some "meat". After she marked my eyebrow she threw away her gloves and put new ones on- this was something I was very happy to see.
After she marked my eyebrow, she had me lie down on this doctors bed, which they used for massage and piercing. Then she clamped my eyebrow, and my best friend held it while she pierced me. Some people say clamping is the worst part, but it really didn't bother me. She told me to take a deep breath and then exhale, and while I exhaled she pushed the needle through. I'm not going to say it didn't hurt, but I am a pretty wimpy kid. It hurt worse when she slipped the barbell in. But then she dropped it, and she had to pierce me all over again. So we went through the whole procedure again, and this time she got the barbell in. By that time my eyebrow had swelled a little, and it was kind of burning. But my little brow went through hell!!! 2 needles in 10 minutes, I was in pain! However Jennifer was very calming. She told me to keep breathing and to relax, and she was very comforting. Then when she was finished she put some Bactine on it with a cotton swab and it felt so much better.
I looked in the mirror at my new freshly poked skin and was very happy. She did a great job even though she had to pierce me twice. From that day on I was totally in love with my eyebrow. It is so cute! It wasn't red, and it hasn't had any bruising. It has been a little sore though, but the swelling has gone down. Eyebrow piercings are awesome! I would recommend them to anyone, and the pain really isn't that bad I'm just a wimp. Jennifer is a very good piercer too, so if you are in the Anchorage area and want a body piercing but are under 15, stop by and check it out! Happy Piercing!
