And here ladies and gentlemen is the story of how I was introduced to the fine art of body modification. It was a little over 6 years ago when I first got into body modification or body art as some people like to call it. I got my first tattoo done in California when I was 21. It was a spur of the moment thing, but it left it's mark on me. Ever since I got my tattoo I knew I would eventually get some other things done, including piercings.

It meant that I would willingly let someone stick a needle in me, causing great amounts of pain, and literally causing a hole to be created in my flesh. The thought of that was scary to say the least, but also a tiny bit exciting. I had a friend who wanted to get her eyebrow pierced and when she went down to the studio I decided to go with to see how much pain she would be going through, just in case I "ever" wanted to get something pierced. The studio where we went had a very good reputation. Many of our friends friends had went there and highly reccomended them. Once I watched her go throught the whole piercing process, it convinced me even more to get something pierced, and soon.
I decided that too many people were getting their tongues pierced for the whole "oral sex is better" reason, but I thought that the eyebrow piercing would fit me much better. And to be honest, it seemed like the tongue would hurt a lot more then a little pinch on the eyebrow. I picked out a nice captive bead ring in 16g. I let Nicole make the suggestions about the jewelry since she obviously knew what she was doing and had way more experience the I did. She suggested the ring because it would be easier to heal, it would be easier to rotate and have more room to breathe instead of trying to twist a barbell around during the cleaning and healing processes.
As expected, it didn't hurt. Not at all. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't hurt, yet a little bit dissapointed. As soon as it was over I wanted t to happen again. I kept thinking that I could take it out and have it repierced to see what it would be like to do it over and over again. It was nice to see a cute ring standing at attention above my eye. A little reminder of pain and pleasure that was all mine! Aftercare was a breeze, just: wash it, use ear care solution to clean the crusties off, DON'T TOUCH IT, and use a warm compress if it got irritated at all.
I think that sometimes the pain of the experience is a good thing. It makes you more aware of yourself and your body- make you in tune with all the good vibes and positive energy that come from doing something positive in your life. It was very nice to have a new mod, it made me feel alive. I enjoy getting tattoos and piercings, but I have to say that the effects that getting pierced have on me far outweigh the effects of getting a tattoo.
The only problem that came about because of my piercing was at work. I didn't realize that there was a unwritten rule that said that you couldn't have any "visible" body piercings. I don't know what they considered ear piercings to be, but I had already had four of those showing. My friend had her eyebrow pierced for about a month before I got mine done and by that time she had gotten her tongue pierced also.
After I got my eyebrow pierced about a week later another girl at work showed up with her's pierced also. I think the combination of all three of us working the same shift and having the same piercing was too much for the bosses. They decided that it was unprofessional looking and claimed that they had recieved numerous compliants about how "awful" they looked from customers. No customer had ever even mentioned that they saw mine, much less told me it looked bad. As a matter of fact mine was all but hidden behind my glasses.
I eventually had to leave my eyebrow ring out while I was at work. And instead of trying to take it out everyday I decided to leave it out on the days that I worked and only put it in for my two days off. After awhile it got so tender from only wearing it for 2 days a week, I took it out for good and eventually it closed up. I hope that someday I will be able to have a job that lets me get it repierced. I still think of it as pierced even though I have let the hole close up. It will always be my first piercing.
Since getting my tattoo and eyebrow piercing, I have gotten many more mods. Each one has a story to tell, and each one is a work of art... done on the canvas that is my body.
