My Name is Tracey Flynn, and I am from PEI Canada, and I am 16 years of age, when I got my first piercing, I was 12. I just wanted to post about my experience of getting my horizontal bridge pierced.

I enjoy piercings in actual fact I get a new one almost every month to 2 months. But my favorite that I have had so far would have to be my horizontal bridge. Read my story and find out why I had to remove my favorite piercing. :(

It was all kind of just a sudden occurence, I hadn't really planned on getting my horizontal bridge pierced all that long, it was completely impulsive, which I think is the best way to get things done. As long as you know what you are getting yourself into. Before getting a piercing, make sure you know who you are getting it from, what you are doing, and how to take care of it, piercings are almost like little babys, you have to take good care of them and keep them clean! I went with my boyfriend at the time to visit my friend and piercer J[D] Gaudet, when I thought about getting it done. So I did.

In June of 2001, right before my date's prom. I went to Custom Creations, in Charlottetown, PEI, to get my horizontal bridge pierced.

Custom Creations is one of my favorite places, as they are so cautious and professional about everything that they do. I was taking through everything step by step. Even though I go there all the time, all their customers are on the same level, and they go through the same procedure everytime. I had to watch as it was pierced, where he got the tools, watch him open the NEW package, and then throw it all away when he was done. I thought that this was great for people who don't get many piercings and would be scared for effects and cleanliness as a lot of rumors go around about the sterility of utilities.

I was used as an experiment procedure, as the artist J[D], had never done a bridge before, as he had just gotten the job about 2 months prior, and had only been doing belly buttons, and eye brows, more common piercings. We spent about 30 minutes in the shop, making sure it was lined up properly, then he cleaned me off, and it was done. It turned out great! And me being 16 had to get my parents permission before I got it. Which I hate doing everytime, but I mean you have to make sure your business is being professional, as you can get into a lot of trouble if not.

The Bridge was pierced perfectly straight, couldn't have asked for anything better, the swelling wore down within a week, and was looking great.

I would recommend mecca to help it heal, but a lot of people also just use antibacterial soaps, such as Jergen's. It will keep it very clean, and you should wash it several times a day, and try to keep dirty hands from touching it. Rotate it often, but make sure your hands have just been cleaned. Also, do not try to take it out for atleast 8 weeks, depending on how it is healing, take it to a specialist to see if it's healed, before attempting to change the ring.

I felt so special, as I was the youngest and one of the only girls in PEI with my bridge pierced, it was so beautiful, and brought attention to my blue eyes. So many people were so envious of my bridge, and now as I walk around, I am starting to notice more and more people with their horizontal bridge pierced.

I started to get real sick, as before I went to get my bridge pierced, I had enflamed sini, (sinus'), I went to the doctor, and had to get my bridge removed as it was pressing up against my sini, and making them more enflamed, causing a lot of build up in my nose and throat.

It was the saddest day in my life as I had to remove the bridge, that I had looked forward to for so long. My bridge only lasted about a month, but now entering the new year of 2002, (january to be exact) I hope to be getting it repierced, and actually getting a double horizontal bridge, done by Brodie at Custom Creations!

Hopefully this time I will get to keep it, and it will turn out as great as the other one looked.

I think the saddest part, is I don't have many pictures, and the ones that I do have are not very close up. Although J[D] did take a picture at the shop, although I have yet to get my hands on it. Once I do get it, it will definately be posted on BME if possible.
