So I got my eyebrow pierced. If you want to know how the procedure itself went, click on any other story. They all seem to go the same way...
At A Glance Author corinna Contact corinna@bme.anon Artist some woman Studio Body Designs Location Bayshore, NY -I've wanted my (blank) pierced since I was (blank).
-My parents are strongly against body modifications...
-As I walked into the shop...
-I was thinking why doesn't this hurt/does this hurt so much?
-I recommend a/an (blank) for anyone. Just do it!
Right. So here's how it all happened:
- I got my eyebrow pierced at 20 g (Anything larger scared my mother I do somewhat blame this gauge for the rejection thing). The piercing itself didn't hurt. I'm not saying it's never gonna hurt. Some of my other body modifications hurt. I just wish people would stop asking such a dumb question. Putting metal where it doesn't belong just might hurt a little. And if the pain of a certain piercing would stop you from getting it you don't deserve that piercing. Yes, some people do get piercings just to "look cool" but I think piercings are more psychological than that. The pain you go through for the end result is almost like a spiritual journey, its rewarding. Yes. I do realize I sound like more or less of an idiot.
-One month after getting pierced I changed from the 20g ring to an 18g barbell (I couldn't stand the tiny gauge bullshit, my goal was 14g or 12g). I pushed that through and all was well.
-Two weeks later the ball on the bottom of the barbell fell off in someone's sofa, I couldn't find it. Not cool...I quickly shoved my old 20g ring in (and this hurt like a bitch) and tried to find a replacement...
-Three days later, I finally made it to my piercer. She told me that I should put a straight barbell in. I was a little skeptical. A straight bar in a curved hole? Well, I knew it was normally done so I just said "whatever" and let her put it through.
-Two week span after changed barbell...it starts to get shallow, pushing out. I'm freaking out cause I was scared I would wake up one day with a barbell on my pillow and a bloody eyebrow. Finally, one morning I look in the mirror and I can see the metal from the barbell through my skin. I knew it had to go. I took it out. BIG scar. Its been there for like 2 months. This huge reddish line on my eyebrow and I get them waxed so it looks like shit. Yeah. I realize I should have taken it out sooner to avoid this scar but I was in total denial. I did not want to loose this piercing. If you get any sign of serious rejection just take it out you can always get it done again. Its better then having a scar. Remember though, sometimes piercing just migrate a little to get into a comfortable place. Make sure you certain the piercing isn't gonna stay, but its better being safe than sorry. (Ooh...safe than sorry...how unlike me.)
Anyway. In a little while I should be posting up some stories about stretching my ears, my tongue and my big fun eyebrow project to come (once this damn scar goes away), a horizontal piercing over a vertical piercing. This looks pretty neat check out some of the pictures on BME.
Stuff to be Careful for when you get a piercing:
-Make sure your body is suitable for a certain piercing and above all, DON'T get pissed at your piercer if he says he wont do your (blank) cause your (blank) is too short/long/small/large etc. Some peoples bodies are just not meant to be pierced in certain places.
-When you walk into the studio what is your overall impression. Is it...eh. I wonder if...hmm. Or more like, Jesus Christ did they hose this place in disinfectant. Once you go into a studio, you might think your obligated to stay there or they will get mad at you but they pierce so many people a day, what do they care. If you too scared to just walk out, say you came in to get prices or you wanted to see if your friend was there (this way they might also let you into the back to see if the place is clean inside and out). Make sure everything comes out of a sealed bag, new needles, autoclaved jewelry. If they make you wait a half hour to autoclave your jewelry wait...its a good sign.
-If you like the bodmod world and you found a good piercer tip him/her well. This will defiantly help in the end when you get better service and nicer piercers. Hey maybe there only nice cause your money but they are the ones shoving metal in you so is it all that important that they don't really care if your dog died.
So just be careful my friends. Don't play with your jewelry or take it out or anything dumb. And unless your totally healed stay away from straight barbells, and unneeded pressure is also unwanted by your tender little chunk of skin. Happy holes everyone :)
