I've had my right eyebrow pierced off and on for the last 2 years, but a couple months ago I decided to add a second barbell beside the first one. I was really anxious to get it done, but I opted to wait until Spring break so I could return to my favorite piercer, Matt, when I would be back in my hometown and able to do so. Time rolled along slowly, but I finally got to Edmonton and strolled down to my favorite place, Whyte Ave, where the studio was located.
At A Glance Author aimlessly wandering Contact jentiffin@hotmail.com Artist Matt Studio Divine Location Edmonton, Ab I took my friend Erin, and made an appointment to get my eyebrow done that week. She was generous enough to also lend her time to be my photographer during the procedure. I was pretty happy to be getting pierced by Matt again, because he makes it so much more enjoyable. He has an amazing ability to make his clients feel totally confortable and he has a way of putting a smile on your face like no one else.
It was finally time to get my eyebrow done, so I strolled down to Whyte again and found my way to Divine where Matt was waiting for me. I went to the front and paid while he began getting the forms. Technically speaking, I shouldn't have been able to get my piercing done at the time, since I'm underage and I had no parents there. However, since I had been pierced by Matt before, and he had met my parents, he knew that I wasn't bullshitting when I said they were still at home in Colorado. His co-worker questioned it, but he made an exception to the rules for my case. It took a few minutes to mesure the barbell I had in already to ensure the two would be even lengths, and when he was satisfied, I followed him to the back room and waited for him as he prepared the tools. Despite the fact that he knew I heard 'the speech' well enough that I could reherse it myself, he made sure I would know what to do the moment I walked away from his care. Erin took some pre-piercing pictures, and Matt began to disinfect everything needed.
It took us a while to decide on the placement of the piercing, since it had to fit perfectly with the curve of my eyebrow and the position of the first barbell. After a few minutes of staring at the dots he had placed, we agreed that the piercing would work nicely if put in that spot. Like usual, just before the piercing, he counted down, and encouraged me to breath to the same pace as his counting so that I knew exactly when to expect it. Most other piercers I have been to usually just ask if I'm ready then proceed, which is one thing I appreciate most about Matt. During the piercing, I was much more relaxed that I had ever been in the past, and was able to enjoy the sensations of the procedure. The needle felt cold, but the feeling of it as it went through my skin sent an nice rush through me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Despite the fact that I've had my eyebrow pierced 5 times, this was the first time I savoured the moment and honestly liked the feeling.
After the piercing was complete, I checked it out in the mirror, and was more than satisfied by the way the barbell pair seemed to compliment eachother. I fell in love instantly. A few more pictures were taken, and we were soon on our way. I walked out with a big smile on my face, and concluded that I would be back again to get more work done the next time I go to Edmonton.
It's been just over a week since it's been pierced, and it's beginning to heal nicely. I get compliments on it all the time, even from people who I would least expect it from. I get a bit paranoid with it sometimes, since for some reason a lot of people have the urge to touch it. This is still a mystery to me, but it's not uncommon to see my duck when an arm comes sailing towards my face. The pictures turned out great, and it's an interesting picture since him and I have many similar facial piercings. I'm looking forward to getting more done from him, but until then my double eyebrow piercing will have to hold me over. I highly recommend Matt as a piercer to anyone in the Edmonton area, or planning a visit there. There may be others out there with more experience, but he knows how to treat his customers the way no one else can. Go find out for yourself!
