I have wanted my nose pierced for a really long time but my mom and dad wouldn't let me until I was 18. I think they just thought I would eventually grow out of that "phase" and not want it anymore. Well it was not a "phase" and I did not grow out of it.

I am a freshman in college and didn't want to get my nose pierced while I was at school. I also wanted to go somewhere closer to home. So about 2 weeks after my 18th birthday, I came home for the weekend. I had researched local tattoo shops and came across 252 Tattoo. I also knew a couple people that had gotten tattoos there. So I had my mom take me because I was so nervous. I was afraid I would be too shaken up to drive home. The whole car ride there was awful. I was so scared and the anticipation for it to be over was killing me! We finally got there and my heart was beating a million miles a minute. This was my first piercing, besides my ears.

We walked inside and everyone was very friendly. I had to fill out a form and give them my driver's license. Chris finally came out and introduced himself. He is the only person that does piercings there. He brought out a selection of jewelry and I settled on a small clear gemstone stud. The jewelry intimidated me because I had never actually seen a nose stud and it was not a straight bar like I had expected. But I took a deep breath and tried not to think about how much it would hurt.

Chris went back to clean and set up the room while my mother and I waited. I thought my heart was going to come out of my chest. We walked back and I sat in the chair. I watched him sterilize everything and wipe down all the surfaces of the trays. He changed his gloves about 6 times before he actually pierced me which was a good sign. I could barely look at all of the stuff needed to get the job done. Everything came out of a sterile bag which was also a good sign. He talked to me a lot while doing this which helped my nervousness. He cleaned the outside and inside of my nose with a couple cotton swabs with cleaner on them. Then he marked my nose and asked if I liked the placement. I wasn't really too picky about where this piercing would sit on my nose so I told him the first placement was good. Then he asked me if I was ready. I wasn't but I said yes.

He put the clamp on which really wasn't too bad. I shut my eyes very tight and tried to think of something else. Then he pushed the needle through. I felt it go in but the pain was actually minimal! I was shocked. And that is the honest truth. I do not take pain well by any means and getting my nose pierced was barely worse than getting my earlobes pierced. Then I was worried that he would have a problem getting the jewelry in since I have read so many stories where that happens and causes great pain. But he had the needle in, out, and the jewelry in within 5 seconds. He was extremely fast and efficient. My nose bled a little bit which he took care of with a cotton swab. Then he handed me a mirror and I admired my new nostril piercing. I absolutely loved it! The placement was perfect and I was extremely pleased.

Afterwards, he explained aftercare. He told me not to touch it much and to wash it with an anti-bacterial soap once a day. He also recommended a salt water rinse a couple times a day. Chris was extremely professional and very good at what he did. He was very friendly and helpful.

It's been about a week since I've had it done and I have actually had no problems so far. I clean it twice a day and do a salt rinse once a day. I try not to touch it but sometimes the ring inside slides down and I can feel it coming out the bottom of my nose which is not attractive! So I have to stick my finger up my nose to adjust it. But no problems! If anyone is debating whether to get their nostril pierced I would say go for it! The pain really isn't bad at all. I would say probably a 5 out of 10. It's very easy to take care of and you will not regret it! And if you're in the area I would definetely recommend 252 Tattoo!
