I had been wanting to get a nostril piercing for awhile now. One of my friends had hers done and I loved the way it looked. The person who did hers does not have a shop anymore. So I started looking into other options. A friend of mine recommended Skin Thieves in Sedalia. I had never been there before but I had a friend who got nipple piercings done there and assured me that it was a clean environment and that they use an autoclave for all of their equipment. Since my friend is a nurse this made me feel more at ease about the shop. This was the first piercing other than my ear lobes and cartilage so I was kind of nervous but a friend of mine agreed to go with me for moral support and wound up getting her lip pierced. We had talked before about going to go and get it done but today ended up being the day.
At A Glance Author TMC When It just happened Studio Skin Thieves Location Sedalia, Missouri So, the two of us went in during the late afternoon today and we did not have to wait more than just a couple of minutes. Other people were just leaving the shop and the staff immediately helped us out in picking out the right jewelry for what we were wanting to have done. The shop was really clean and all of the staff were friendly with us.
So, while we were there my friend decided to get her lower lip pierced. She was very nervous at first but the staff put her at ease quickly. I got to watch while they did her piercing and it didn't seem to bad. In fact, it really made me a lot less nervous about taking my turn and getting my nose pierced. My friend said her lip did not hurt much at all. She did a good job if it did hurt because I barely even saw her wince when the 14 gauge needle go in to her lip. She said it felt more like a bee sting.
The guy that did my piercing was nice and all of the equipment was sterile and clean. They were able to answer all of our questions about the gauge of the needles and the jewelry and also were able to recommend the right retainers we would need to hide our piercings at work because we cannot wear the regular jewelry at our jobs. My friend got her lip done while I got my nostril done and we both were able to get the clear plastic retainers we would need for later.
Basically the piercing booth was behind where you first sign in and it was private and comfortable. I sat down on the leather bench and watched while he prepped all of the sterile equipment. He then cleaned my nose with antiseptic and dotted the spot on my nose where the piercing was going to go with a small felt tipped marker. Then he handed me a mirror so that I could see if the mark was exactly where I wanted the new piercing to be. I approved the spot and then it was time for the needle. The needle was not scary at all. He had me take a couple of deep breaths to prepare me for the needle puncture. I took a couple of deep breaths and then I felt the needle pierce my nostril. It was nowhere near as bad as I had imagined it might have been.
The person who did my piercing (I think his name might have been Adam) was good about telling me how to care for and clean my new piercing and told me if I had any questions just to call him and he would be able to help me. He really made me feel comfortable and his wife (Jen I think) who took my information when I arrived was nice too.
It was a really great experience. I was not sure what to expect since it was my first facial piercing and all I had ever had done before was my ear lobes and upper ear cartilage, but it was not bad at all. The piercing itself felt like a sharp sting for about 2 seconds and my eye on that side of my face teared a little bit but by the time I realized there was any pain it was over and the jewelry was in place. My nostril piercing did bleed just a little bit. It was not much blood at all though and stopped after just a minute.
The shop also has a tattooing side but I did not really check that out today. I would definitely do the nostril piercing again and I would definitely go back to Skin Thieves in the future. Even my husband, who has no piercings at all, thinks it looks good.
