Back in September someone turned up in my class at college with their nose pierced. I thought it looked really nice but never really thought about getting it done myself until a month or so later. We were talking about piercings in a lesson and I decided that 2 in each lobe was boring and not enough for me. I decided against navel, as everyone had it, and nobody would see it as I rarely bare my stomach. In the end it was between helix and nose (nostril).

I thought I had better ask my parents because although I was 16 and didn't need their permission.... it was less hassle than having to explain afterwards. Anyways, I mentioned it and the answer was no, so I left it a couple of days and asked again... and my mum said yes because she knew it was quite likely that I would do it anyway.

So I got the bus into town the next day and met my mum when she had finished work. I had decided on my nose by this point and was getting nervous, as it was a fair few years since my lobes were pierced (and they were done with guns... which yeah, after reading about, I should have had a needle... but I didn't know at the time.)and I was worried that it wouldn't suit me and I would have wasted the money for nothing.

But anyway, I got to Metal Fatigue in Bournemouth, feeling rather worried as I walked up the stairs but was fine once I got inside. I signed the forms, was told they would use a needle (which I already knew) and paid. It was only £15 which wasn't too bad. The guy was really nice, made sure that I was 100% about going ahead with it and stuff.

I went into the room which looked like the dentist place and sat in the chair. He drew the dot on and asked if it was ok, which it was. I then had the clamp put on (my mum was going to come in with me but decided she couldn't watch, so she just kind of hovered in the doorway!) And told me to breathe deeply because he was going to put the needle in. I felt it go in, and sort of waited for pain to kick in but it didn't really. It was uncomfortable rather than painful, but it a strangely satisfying sort of way... hard to explain! He then said he was going to put the stud in. This was slightly more uncomfortable than the needle, but again, it was bearable and was over quickly. Oh yeah, before he did all this he took the stud and needle out of the sterile packaging in front of me so I could see it wasn't just used from someone else or something!

My right eye (same side that was pierced) watered a bit, which was weird.... and I was told to stay in the chair for a bit incase I fainted when I got up.... But I just wanted to look in the mirror to see what it looked like! Felt slightly light-headed, but not too bad!

Looked in the mirror and loved it! It bled slightly, but nothing major. Was given all the information on aftercare and that was it!

I kept doing the salt water cleaning thing with it and it seemed fine. A week or two later I was at a party and was in a bit of a mess and it fell out... which prompted me to panic as I thought it had fallen down the loo.... but my friend found it for me and I somehow drunkenly managed to get it back in with minimal amount of pain/effort. I can't remember how long I was told to keep it in for, but I think I took it out about 4 weeks after it was pierced, which I think was about right for me, as it all seemed ok, no infections or blood or anything like that.

6 months later I still love it and feel naked without it! Its easy to change and take out for small amounts of time (I took it out for a couple of job interviews, but they are fine with it now!!), but it does start to close up a bit if left more than a few hours... not completely, but it is painful to get the stud back in!

Metal Fatigue is a great piercing place and I would recommend it to anyone down Bournemouth way.

Anyone thinking of getting their nose done, I hope this helped, and just go for it, its not too painful (I thought my lobes hurt more to be honest!).

I'm hopefully going back in the next couple of days to get helix.... and then hopefully more after that... although I keep telling my mum it'll be the last one.
