Well, I'm no stranger to piercings. I love them, personally. I have 12 in my ears, most of which I've done myself. I have my tongue and both of my nipples done. All of these I got before turning 18. I decided that I wanted something more drastic, something that can be seen.

What could I have that I could easily hide from mom? Of course! My septum!
My friend and I were driving one day. No particular destination. She had her septum pierced by one of her friends, and I decided that really wasn't the way I wanted to go.
On our drive, I noticed a new tattoo parlor that had opened up. It was Rockstar Tattoo, about a 5 minute drive from her house. I perked up, but then instantly deflated seeing as I only had 30 dollars on me. I was almost past it when I noticed the "25 DOLLAR PIERCING SPECIAL". I slammed on the brakes and headed inside.
We walked inside. I asked them what the catch was; It couldn't just be any piercing for 25 dollars, I expected to have to buy the jewelry first. They told me that there wasn't any need to buy the jewelry, that it was included. Everyone was super nice. I told them that I wanted my septum done and was thoroughly disappointed; They told me that seeing as it was more tricky than most piercings, it would be 40 dollars. Obviously, I was a little irritated. I told them that they advertise a 25 dollar piercing sale, and then won't do a septum for under 40. Then I took a different approach. I used my charm on one of them, and he proceeded to call the manager of the place. Luckily for me, he told me that he could do it for 25, seeing as I was really looking forward to it, and that they had just opened.
Kevin was the one that lead me into the room. I wasn't expecting it to be seriously painful. I've always had a relatively high tolerance for pain, and he was really cool about it.
He sat me down in the chair and introduced himself. The place was really really clean and everything he used, obviously, was sterile. I wouldn't have come this far if I thought that anything was other than spotless and clean. He asked me questions about my other piercings, and laughed when I told him that my friend had done my nipples. He joked around with me a bit before we started and it was nice. I wasn't treated like just a slab of meat to shove a needle through; He was genuine and a very good piercer.
The chair was leaned back and I was ready to go. He marked me up and took out those wonderful things called clamps.
This was the only part that made my eyes water. I hate clamps. They are painful and cold and scary. After those had been on for a second or two, I started to tear up. He asked if I was okay, and when I nodded, he proceeded.
He took the needle out and I tensed up. I was a little nervous, and the adrenaline was flowing. At that moment all the bad thoughts came into my head. My realistic side knew that nothing bad was going to happen. But my imagination was running wild.
I had heard from people that septums are the most painful piercings they've gotten. As I said before, I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I was getting a little shaky. He told me that I had nothing to worry about, and joked that the worst he could do was miss and put it through my eye. Surprisingly, this made me feel a little bit better. The more he talked, the better I felt. Again, this is why he is one of the best piercers I've been to. He asked me if I was ready, and I said "Let's do this!"
The needle went through and I tried really hard not to jerk. I've heard of piercings coming out crooked if you do, and having it on my face would not make me a happy camper if it were crooked. After I stopped tensing up, he asked if I was alright, and told me that the worst part was over. I was so happy that it was through. He put the ring through which was a little uncomfortable, but didn't hurt. He handed me a mirror, and it was gorgeous! I loved it. The initial poke hurt a bit, I'm not gonna lie. It was a little more than a tickle. But if you're not a complete stranger to piercings, it's not too bad.
I've had it for a couple of months now, and it's looking great. At first, crusties would get in there, and anytime I tried to rotate it, it hurt pretty bad. But it's been about 2 or 3 months, and it feels fine now. I'm really happy with the job he did.
