Originally, I was planning on getting some surface anchors today to mimic an anti-eyebrow. However, I'm having my wisdom tooth out in less than two weeks, so I decided to postpone it until after that so the (potential) swelling wouldn't bother them as they'd be only an inch or so away from the tooth. But I still wanted to get something done today...

After a bit of thought--mostly debating between a lip piercing and the nostril--I decided I wanted to get two piercings in my right nostril, I figured it could be an early birthday present to myself (I figure I'll have to wait until after the wisdom tooth extraction for the lip too). My last nostril piercing was SUPER painful, way more painful than my septum, or tragus, or anything else I've had done was. There was a lot of fiddling, he couldn't get the jewelry to get in, etc. So I was expecting a similar experience this time, with a similar amount of pain, only doubled.

I drove to the studio (my bf came with me, even though he wasn't sold on the idea), stood in line for a few minutes waiting for the customers in front of me to finish up their paperwork, went and talked to the girl at the front counter (she was new and had to ask Ben about pricing), filled out my paperwork, paid ($70), and went to the back to one of the rooms with my piercer, Matt. At first Matt thought we were doing two nostril piercings, but with one on each nostril, when it was actually two piercings but on the same nostril. After we got that straightened, out he got everything ready--washed his hands, put on gloves, and got all his tools/my jewelry lined up. He asked if I wanted the hoops to be the same size, or if I wanted the back one to be larger in diameter. I asked which one he thought was the better option, and he said he thought having he back one larger would ultimately look better. I told him we'd go with that then. He placed the hoops against my nostril to get an idea of placement. The way he set it up looked perfect the first time, so we marked it off and got started. He decided to do the hole in the back first. He put the needle up to my nose and we went through the whole "breathe in, breathe out" deal, and presto the needle was through and after a quick pinch where the hoops were being shut, the jewelry was in. It hurt a tad, but it was nothing like the agony I went through the first time I had it done. He did the other one in the same fashion, and it was just as quick, and even less painful, probably due to the flood of endorphins coursing through my body from the first one. My eyes didn't even really water this time, where as last time my eyes were like fountains.

He went over aftercare (basic standard stuff: keep my hands off it, don't get any makeup near it, etc.), asked me what color freeze pop I wanted (red), and I tipped him. Ultimately, sitting through the two this time was much less of an ordeal, and much less painful than the last one I had, and that was only the one.

They look absolutely great (minus the dried crusty blood), and I'm completely thrilled with them. Though it's a wee bit strange, because I can see them out of my peripheral vision, and I'm not used to that yet; it's kinda like wait what's that on my face? then I'm like oh, yeah, that's right. I think even the beau likes them, and thinks they look pretty damn good. Now, I just can't wait until I can change the jewelry out to something more exciting (ie colorful jewelry), because right now they're just standard silver hoops. But I'm still admiring them in the mirror every chance that I get.

It's only been a couple of hours since they were done, so there's still that slight dull-achy feeling about them, but I expect that'll be gone by tomorrow morning. And even though I just had these done, I'm still planning out my next piercings with the eagerness of a kid on christmas morning.

Anyhow, if you're in the MD area, mystic piercing is great. Their staff is always super nice, and you never have to wait for more than a few minutes. They don't really do any sort of extreme mods, but they're good at what they do, and they care about the customers. Personally, I'd recommend Matt and Ben, they both do good work, and make the process as pain free as it can possibly be.
