My body modification addiction had started at the age of twelve when I had gotten my first tattoo and eyebrow piercing for Christmas. I had always been interested in modification and wanted to put more holes in my body then anyone could stand. By the time I had turned 14 I came to the realization of how common and mainstream the mod. Culture had become and wanted to explore the unusual side of it.

But then again,

I was 14,

Which made it hard to me to reach the "That Is Really F***** Up" aspect of modification.

After a few months of pondering I had set my heart on getting a Septum piercing. It was March break of 2006 and I had been in new minas with my sister and mother doing shopping and "all of that jazz" when I finally passed the idea onto Carol *my mom* of getting my "bull ring" pierced (she didn't quiet understand the terminology and still refers to my piercing as that to this day). She laughed and after 20 minutes came to the consideration and approval! I was thrilled.

Later in the day we made a stop at Everlasting Ink to see if they had any free time up for grabs to go threw with the piercing, But , of course, being march break their piercer was not on site so I made an appointment for the following Saturday, but not for the septum piercing. At that point I also wanted to get an industrial.

The next weekend arrived and I left the shop with a fresh and tender industrial piercing, but no septum.

For months I had anticipated and longed for my septum piercing. When July came around, Carol finally let down her guards and told me to make an appointment for Saturday. I did so and that following Saturday my sister, grandmother and Carol all piled into the car destined for new minas.

I had been nervous about the piercing for an entire five days by then so I needed to preoccupy my time before the appointment. Doing this was not easy, Carol and my sister both tormented me with the thought of how painful it would be and how it is going to turn me away from ever inducing my body with more metal. I had almost called it quits on the piercing from the nauseous state my siblings had put me in.

Upon arrival to the shop, Matt (the piercer) greeted me and told me I had another forty minutes to wait so he could get his equipment and supplies ready. I thought to myself that by this time I would be in the car vomiting from being tormented. I guess Carol wanted to get it over with as much as I did and quietly ended the battle.

After a half hour of driving around New Minas doing the most absolute of nothing, we returned to the shop. I walked in and matt hailed me into a back room where my piercing would be taking place.

The room smelt like a hospital with was calming and horrifying, "I hate hospitals" I said aloud, Matt laughed and pointed me in the direction of the chair. I sat down and clamped my palms to the arms of the chair very tightly because I had been eyeballing the clamps and needles, which surprisingly made me less nervous. Carol and I signed the consent forms and matt went over the procedure with me. He snapped gloves on quickly then felt the inside of my nose for a cartilage separation. He then cleaned and marked me, prepared a receiving tube for the opposing side of the entrance, and took the fourteen gauge needle out of the package.

Before I gave him the "O.k." I asked him if it was going to hurt. He then pushed the needle threw my nose and replied with "Not at all". It really didn't hurt at all. It was actually kind of disappointing, but funny because all of the tormenting prior had been useless.

After checking the needle he fed the CR threw my nose, then began clamping it. Out of the entire experience the CR getting clamped shut hurt the worst. I wasn't crying but my eyes started watering a little to make it appear that I was doing so. Matt noticed and told me it would almost be over. I laughed a little. He then put the ball on the CR and checked it before sending me on my way. My nose didn't hurt at all for about 5 days. It then started getting really tender and scabbed a little. I couldn't smile for about 3 weeks. But after that I didn't have any complications from the piercing itself. In October of that year though, I had been hit in the face with a Frisbee *very funny, I know* and it forced the ball stuck. I couldn't change the CR until April and that was by cutting it off. I've had my piercing for a year and a half now and it suits me very well.

FYI – If anyone tries to torment you with the pain that will be caused from getting a septum piercing, shrug it off.
