A couple of weeks ago, I decided that I really wanted a septum piercing to accompany my 4g lobes and my rook. Well, I've never been one to sit on a decision, so I went two weeks later to get it done! I have stretched my lobes to 4g myself, had my rook pierced last year, and have a small tattoo from a while ago, and was really waiting to get something else done. I was a little indecisive at first, but after looking at pictures, and reading some other stories here, I decided that a septum was what I really wanted. IronAge is a piercing and tattoo place that is really close to where I live, and I have been there multiple time for myself and for my friends. I have been pierced by both current piercers, and would recommend the place to anyone. Its a nice atmosphere, the people are really friendly, and if you need to wait for an appointment time, there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby to "calm your nerves". Also, they change your jewelry for free after the initial piercing!

So I'm sitting in the chair, and I had just had my jewelry changed for my rook, and I was waiting for my piercer to get everything set up for my nose. It was exciting, and I wasn't expecting it to be very painful, so needless to say, I was a little shocked when the piercing managed to push some tears out of the corner of my eyes! It wasn't excruciating, but I now realize how sensitive of an area it is to get pierced; I now have some priceless pictures of me with a needle through my nose, tears running down my face, and a huge smile! My nose didn't bleed at all, and the jewelry went in painlessly; I did have to grab a tissue for my eyes though! I had a retainer put in, flipped up, and then I was good to go.

I am always careful with the care of my piercings, so I make sure to wash it twice a day with gentle soap and use H2Ocean to clean the piercing out. The immediate pain subsided quickly, though the dull pain lasted for quite some time afterwards... I was in such a habit of avoiding my ears when I was changing or showering, I forgot all about my nose, and kept hitting myself in the face -- not hard, but a little bump was enough to make a few more tears form. Its been a week, and most of the pain is gone, although it is still a little tender, and I'm pretty sure that if someone hit me in the face now, I'd be incapacitated... but besides that, I love it! I was a little nervous about the septum because it is my first facial piercing, and I've been given enough grief from my parents, just for my rook!, to last me a lifetime, which is why I chose a retainer. It really is almost invisible! The only problem is that the swelling in my nose has gone down so much, the retainer is actually too loose. More than once, I've blown my nose (forgot to mention I am getting over a cold too) and the retainer has just come out! I quickly slip it back in, and it doesn't hurt, but I think I might head back to the piercing place to see what they say because I know its not good for my jewelry to be falling out! I know I will keep the retainer so when I need to see my family or go to work, I an slip it in and hide the piercing; but for now, I'd really like to get a talon-like piece of jewelry. I don't really want a CBR, but I'm also not a huge fan of the circular barbells, so I think a talon or something like it would be perfect.

So in the end, through the pain, and my cold, and my concern about my parents -- I love my piercing! I am so glad that I did it, I absolutely love it, and with the retainer, hopefully the family will never have to know...

I ultimately decided to get my septum pierced after reading an entry from somebody in my same position -- he was saying that he was unsure about facial piercings because of his parents, and his employer, and his professors, but decided to go with the septum because it can be easily hidden. He finally said that he would recommend it to anyone, and he loved his to death, and he finally motivated me to get mine! So if anyone out there is thinking of getting it done, just do it! I am so happy that I did!
