Getting my Septum pierced was something I had been thinking about getting for quite a while, but it was playing on my mind as to whether it would suit me or not and the fact that I'd been told from someone who'd had it pierced that it would really hurt, so my fear was stopping me. So for the past couple of weeks before getting it done I'd been thinking about getting it done even more, even more so because I needed cheering up and I wanted something new and shiny to look at. In the past I really hated septum piercing's but I've changed a lot since then and have become more open minded about modifications.

So over a month ago when I had money to spend I went down to my piercer's studio with a couple of mates and as usual I was getting nervous because it's a whole new area to get pierced plus my "friends" had been going on about how it would hurt loads, how it would make a popping sound and how apparently my whole nose would swell up. Though I defiantly didn't believe them about my whole nose swelling up, just the bit that was going to be pierced. So walking into the studio was nerve racking especially as Al my piercer was staring at me.

So instead of standing there looking stupid I said that I wanted a septum pierced. Before I'd got there I wanted to ask about jewellery sizes and style (ball closure and circular barbell). In the end I picked a 1.6mm smallish ball closure ring because my piercer Al said that the 1.2mm would have been too small and light.

So he got all the equipment ready, cleaned the area and checked my nose out I was also sitting there holding my best friends hand, yes I'm a wimp but that's the first time I've asked someone to do that because as I said before it's a whole new area and people had said it hurts a lot.

He put the clamp on my nose and asked if I was ready, I said yes and the needle started to go thorough very slowly making a kind of crunching sound as it was going thorough. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be but still a lot of pain, then when he took his hand away from the clamp I needed to sneeze really badly and I didn't want to do it when the clamp was on otherwise something bad probably would have happened. So I repeatedly said "get the clamp off, get the clamp off", so he took it off when he could and I sneezed three times. When I was ready to go again he put the jewellery in, was a slight pinch but not that bad.

He then had to clean it up because it was bleeding like I expected and then we were all done, he showed me the mirror and I loved it. My friend asked if he had ever had anyone sneeze having it done before, apparently he hadn't, I think it's just me, if anyone goes near my nose I sneeze because it's a really sensitive area. I paid Al and said thank you. I noticed that it was rising and I asked him about it, in reply he said it would keep doing that for a few days and that I should leave it alone. So I was going to look a bit stupid for a few days but I didn't care I had my septum pierced and it looked gorgeous.

After a few days it had stopped rising and it was less painful so I could move it around a lot more. A couple of weeks ago I had to go back to see Al my piercer as I wanted him to put in something that would hide me septum piercing as I had an interview that day. After about twenty minutes of fiddling about and changing the jewellery a few times I had my piercing hidden, I had also asked for a circular barbell because I always thought the ball closure ring looked weird and he gave it to me for free which I was pleased about. By now my piercing seemed fully healed after cleaning it morning and night with warm salt soaks which seemed to send shivers down my spine which I found strange.

My friend who had seen it once it was healed said she loved it and decided she wanted it done but she went for the bar option instead of the ring. I decided against the bar option when I got mine pierced because I just thought it didn't look right, kind of like having a silver snot ball hanging out of each nostril.

I would seriously recommend this piercing to anyone don't let anyone put you off by saying it will really hurt, you got to expect a bit of pain though and don't let them make you believe your nose will swell up as a balloon because it won't. If you're not sure if it will suit you just go for it because it's the only way you're going to find out, that's what I did.
