I had wanted to get my nose pierced for a while, but continued to debate over and over in my head why or why not, so I wasn't planning on doing it anytime soon. Besides, I was getting ready to go on vacation and didn't want to deal with healing a new piercing while on vacation.

During her visit, we were sitting around the pool one day, just chatting along with both of my sisters. We got on the subject of piercings (my sister has many) and my cousin said she wanted to get her tongue pierced but was scared to and it was so much money. We told her it was only $10 here and she got excited! She said it would cost her $40 where she lives. I told her I would go with her and get a piercing, though I didn't know exactly what (I actually wanted a few different ones). She said she would rather pay $10 than $40, so of course she wanted to go. Of course we have five kids between us and didn't want to drag them all into the piercing shop, and we asked my sisters if either of them would be interested in babysitting, and they both were, so planned to go the next day, while my two sisters watched a total of 9 kids (including their own)!
The next day came and we headed to Artistic Skin. It is a well recommended place in town and I had been there before for a naval piercing. We talked a lot with the lady behind the counter about questions and concerns; because she wanted to be sure she could hide this piercing from her dad during their two day car trip home! The time came for her to get pierced, but I was still undecided between a nostril or a conch piercing. She was very nervous and even her tongue was shaking in the forceps before the piercing, but it was over fast.
When she finished, I asked her to pick which one I should do, and she chose the nostril, so it was decided. I went back up to the counter and paid $10 for my piercing and then picked out the jewelry. I chose a purple jeweled nose bone. Of course I didn't realize when I picked it out that nose bones are not a good choice.
I sat down in the seat as the guy prepared. He asked me which side I wanted done and I told him the left side, so he proceeded to mark my nose. He placed the needle on the top part of my nose, getting ready to push down and asked if I was ready. "Yes, as ready as I'll ever be," I though to myself, but just mumbled, "yep." He pushed it through and then put the jewelry in...but when he pushed it through, he also stuck the needle in my top lip...ouch! My eyes watered like crazy, but it was over and I now had my nose pierced. We got our aftercare instructions and the lady behind the counter told me I will want to take out my nose bone in two weeks and switch to something else to let it heal or else it will be really hard (and painful) to get out.
The piercing did hurt for a few days, but is feeling better now. I have accidentally pulled it out with a washcloth once, and it does hurt having that nose bone come out and then having to put it back in! I'm ready to get this nose bone out and never put it back in! Nonetheless, I really like my nose piercing. It has been almost two weeks now and I will be going to get a fishtail custom bent for my nose, though I haven't decided whether to go back to the same shop or try another recommended shop in town (Body Art Emporium), because I also want to get my right conch pierced while I'm there! Hey! Might as well, right? (Yes, I am addicted!)
FYI--As far as aftercare, I've been doing a mix of stuff I have read on the internet. I usually do a chamomile tea compress once a day in the AM, wash with dial complete once a day (usually when I'm in the shower), and do a sea salt soak once a day before I go to bed. So far, I haven't had any problems healing it, other than accidentally pulling out the nose bone and having it start to hurt all over again like it had just been pierced! The moral of this story...don't get pierced with a nose bone!
