About six months ago, I decided on a short whim that I wanted to get my nose pierced, so I researched it and found out all sorts of things about piercing in general. like how piercing started in egypt with the piercing of men's ears, and how prince albert's were used to restrict penile function in ancient rome on gladiators, and how in elizabeth times dresses became skirts and women basically went topless to show off their nipple piercings. So after an information overload, I got my nerve up and called my friend Emily who does piercings out of her basement presently(she has a license and she used to work at a shop too).

On the night I went to go get it done it was snowy and cold, and I went to big boys with my mom and sister. Because I was so nervous I only ate a little mainly because i thought i would throw up. I was excited though because it would be my first piercing ever. So I went and I got it done, thinking that the artist would forcep my nose, brutally shove a cork in my nostril and shove a two inch needle in. I was relieved to find out that that was not the procedure, and that made me so much more excited, to get a permanent hole in my nose. The reason that I wanted it was because of the ring, in my group of friends we try to do the most hippiest things...it's just who we are, a bunch of fun hippies. we want dread locks and we wear patchouli and we all wanted nose rings.

When it was time to pierce my nose, Emily told me to go blow my nose, take a piss, and calm down and come back. So I did that, when I came back she iodined my nose, cleaned the jewelry, the needle, my nose, and then she took out the forceps. She told me about how when you pierce someone you shouldn't use the forcep clips but a rubber band in order to make the piercee the most comfortable and to not break the blood vessels in the nose either. So she told me to breathe and then she clamped me. it was the weirdest feeling ever, having my nostril restricted like that, but i sat and dealt through it.

So emily stripped off her second pair of gloves and got a new set on and got the needle, lubed it up, and told me the procedure...to stay still, breathe in hold she'll count to three and pierce my nostril. so she brushed my cheek with her hand and I unfortunately jerked away and told her it was nerves and she said okay..and she put her hand on my cheek bone to keep my from doing that again and she was holding the needle over my nostril and we were ready to go and it seemed like it took her like a minute to peirce my nose, but the the adrenaline kicked in and everything from their till the time i got home was smooth sailing and my heart was beating like mad and i loved it. I didn't even bleed like I thought I would. I can't wait to get another piercing. It's going to be a Vertical industrial. I love my nostril piercing...generally I have a ring in my nostril and that's the way I like it. i always get the usual questions like I thought it would bug you...or that it would be weird to sneeze or blow my nose. and i always talk the piercing up.

In fact just recently i had to defend my nostril piercing to my best friends mom and I had to relate my entire piercing story to her. She has a habit of playing devil's advocate to everything. My major in college is going to be Art Education with interest of becoming a art teacher in a high school setting. and as we all know the professional world is stuck in the old Ways of thought and they don't accept body modifications as a normal thing, so I would have to find a way to hide my piercing and my future tattoos. thankfully they have retainers for every piercing. thankfully I was able to explain that everything I get will be mostly hideable. Especially my nostril piercing. Piercing was one the most fun things I have done since I turned 17, and i have been freer. My main belief in life is your body is something that you will only live in once so feel free to change everything. I have pierced my nose, dyed my hair and i'm getting tattoos too. I am going to have so much fun. I love Body Modification, especially my Wonderful nostril piercing.
