I love piercings. My septum piercing was my 8th proper piercing (not including ears)
At A Glance Author Laura When It just happened Artist Rikki Studio Skin n' Ink, Bridgend Location Bridgend, South Wales, UK I don't actually know why I had it done, it might have been because my boyfriend had it done and it made snakebites look better.
I'd just got back from Paris and still had money left in my bank account, so I told my boyfriend that it was about time I had it done. We went to town, I got the money out of my bank account and headed to Skin n' Ink, a shop owned by a friend of mine who goes by the name "nipper".
I walked in, looked around. I couldn't see Rikki (the piercer). My heart started beating quickly. Then he walked through the door and i uttered the words I usually say when I am in the studio...
"Will you pierce me"
He asked me what I wanted and then he told me to wait two minutes while he set up.
My heart was racing. I've had a good amount of piercings but this was the one that got me worried. I think the adrenaline didn't really help my nerves.
While I waited I looked at the jewellery. they didn't have a small crescent like I wanted so I bought a subway with the money for that :P
When he called me in I was very nervous. I asked him if he had any small horseshoes, but he didn't so I had to have a kinda large one, but it doesn't look too bad!
I sat down. I had to blow my nose and then after 5 minutes of talking he asked me if I was ready. We talked about the piercing itself, because I asked if it was like piercing-pain or ahh-fuck-pain. He told me it was like being kicked in the face, which wasn't reassuring!!
When I said I was ready he told me to keep my head up. The tonsillitis didn't help cause my throat was swollen. It was awkward looking up :(
He cleaned the inside of my nose with some odorless stuff and asked me if I was sure I wanted it done.
I was ready as I was ever going to be.
He put the clamp on, which did hurt i'll admit, then he told me to keep my head up and close my eyes and they would stream like a bitch.
I looked up and closed my eyes. He pushed the needle in... Fuck it hurt.
i do actually have a high pain threshold, but it did hurt. if the needle doesn't hurt, then your sinuses will!
I started laughing - a normal thing after piercings and needles in general.
The people who go around saying septum piercings don't hurt are 100% bullshitters! It hurts like a bitch! Not to put people off....
After the needle was in it wasn't too bad. My heart was still racing and I looked down to see plastic tube sticking through my septum looking like a bone.
Rikki is a nice guy so he was talking to me all the way through it, making sure I was ok. Bless him :)
I won't trust anyone putting a needle through me except Rik.
Putting the horseshoe in didn't hurt at all..
I did feel a little light headed ( a first for me ) So he told me to lie down.
When I walked through the door one of the tattooists asked me what I just had done (as I got snakebites as well) My eyes were still watering. I thought I was going to cry, I was pretty glad I didn't, although at one point I think I nearly did.
Some people say that it hurts to sneeze and blow your nose, but I haven't had any problem with that. I've sneezed a few times and it's been fine. I have kinda knocked my nose with my hand a few times. Just generally rubbing it and forgetting there's a piece of metal in the middle of my nose. So I'll advice you to take more caution when doing that. It's a piercing you don't really notice, you just forget about it because you can't really feel it. Also it gets in the way of kissing, and even that can be a little bit painful. Again be cautious.
All I have to do now is just take care of it. A solution of warm water and rock salt is advised, and cotton buds to get rid of crusty bits :(
Clean it twice a day is advised, even better if you've just come out the shower as the skin is softened and any blood and pus or anything comes off better.
It was definatly worth the pain. I probably would have it done again.
If anyone lives in Bridgend, I will honestly recommend Skin n' Ink. It's probably one of the cleanest places around, Rikki is an amazing piercer and out of my piercings I've never had one problem.
Anyone thinking of having a septum piercing should definatly go for it!
