Back in the begining of January, I had a mad bug about getting more piercings. But I didn't know what to get done. I already have my ears all done up, my lip, and my bellybutton. I was thinking of a piercing no one at my school had and places that weren't that common. I had thought about my bridge, but that's really not that good looking, and it got me thinking. My boyfriend has his septum pierced, and I absolutely love it. So I decided to go with that. His is a 4g though, and i am never going that far. Just keep that in mind. It was kinda late at night, and I was sitting in my room doing next to nothing. I decided I was bored enough and it would be the perfect time. I had never been one to get piercings done professionally. I always thought that i knew the right way things should feel so i was always 'mehh' about going to studios. Most say that it's not worth the risk of DIYing it, but I never had any problems.

I got the biggest needle I could find, a 14g by the looks of it. I soaked it in peroxide and that was it. I'm not one to fear germs and such. I went to BME and explored pictures of where the piercing should be exactly. I read about finding the spot of skin right below the cartlidge and searched for it in my nose. It was pretty small because I have a really small nose, but i managed to find it and get comfortable touching it.
I positioned the needle straight and on the spot, it was pretty wierd feeling at first. I poked my nose with the needle a few times just to get ready for the pain I thought was gonna come.
then i gathered enough courage to slowly shove it through. Pain level? Not so bad at all. at least not yet. I had the needle about halfway through, and it was as straight as an arrow still, so I was good to go.
As i got to the halfway point, it felt like I hit a hollow spot in my nose and if I moved the needle, I could scratch the cartilidge and other side of my nose. OH MAN that was the freakiest feeling EVER. I get the shivers just thinking about it.
Ugh, anyways I made sure the needle was straight again before I started pushing. when it got to the last layer of skin thats when the pain started. It was more of a burn i guess you could say. I pushed as hard as I could and it finally popped through the last layer. I continued to shove the long needle so it was even in my nose. I looked like some tribal member!
I left the needle in for about and hour or so, so i could make sure the hole wouldn't close up and putting the jewlery in would be much easier. I sat my butt on the computer and myspaced it for awhile trying to forget about the huge needle shoved through my nose. It soon became time for me to remove the needle.
I got the jewelry, a 14g horseshoe that I could easily flip up into my nose. Getting the jewelry through is the MOST painful it gets! I had pulled the needle out of my nose and as quickly as I could, get the horseshoe through. Now I say, the horseshoe is externally threaded which caused so much pain. I had a little bit of trouble getting it through the other hole, but after a few minutes of readjusting, and that horrible hollow-scratch feeling, I found the other hole.
I screwed the spike on the end, and i was done! I went to bed, no problem. i went to school, no problem. But everyone thought I was crazy. No one at my school had their septum pierced and the older teachers looked at me in disgust. I loved it.
But i hadn't even thought of what my parents would say. Thankfully, you can hide septum piercings. When I was around my parents, hiding it was as easy as a flip up. 6 months later it's fine and my parents finally found out thanks to my boyfriends prodding at my nose and my 'hey! it's still tender!' Other than a little tenderness which has finally gone away, my piecing is straight and perfect.
It even inspired my friend to do hers, so now we are the only girls in this town to have it done.
and it totally completes my face too! It evens out my features, ooh-la-la. anyone looking for an easy-hide piercing I recommend your septum. And if you have a round face, I recommend it even stronger.
