I am 15 and about three months ago I had a spur of the moment idea. "I want my septum pierced". It was not a piercing that appealed to me. I didn't like the sight of them at first and the thought of having it pierced made my eyes water. But it grew on me. The more and more I searched through the pictures on BME the more I wanted it so I decided to go for it.

I had actually already booked the appointment before I asked my mums permission because I thought that would win her over a bit more (haha). 12:30 Saturday.
The nerves did not grow on me at all. For the rest of the week I was telling my friends about getting it done. Most of the responses were "You freak!" or "EURGHH" but that didn't stop me wanting it. In fact, I think it made me want it even more so! I researched it a lot more and found that a lot of people mention the 'sweet spot' (the spot in front of the cartilage) of the septum, where the piercer pierces. I decided that I would check all of this with the piercer when I arrived. Still, the more I researched the piercing the more I wanted it.
Saturday morning arrived. The nerves were still not getting to me, I had heard the septum is not that painful to pierce. I told my mum that I would need her to come with me to sign the consent forms because I am not yet 15 and she said that it was fine. We arrived at the parlour at about 12 and it wasn't open so we went to grab a bacon sandwich (Yay for bacon sandwiches!) By now I thought the nerves would be getting to me but they still weren't.
"Are you nervous then?" my mum asked.
"Nope, not really," I replied to her.
"Hmm, hold your hand out then!" I held my hand out in front of me. No shaking. My mum started telling me about how she wouldn't go through with letting someone stick a needle through there nose. I laughed and dropped some of my sandwich.
We went back to the parlour at about twenty-five past twelve. It still wasn't open. We waited... and waited... and waited some more. I then looked across the road and saw a lady with dreadlocks and a nostril piercing.
"That's got to be her hasn't it?" My mum said. The lady gave a little smile and a wave.
"Erm, I suppose so," I said. She came over, opened the shop and we went inside. It was a well presented parlour and looked very clean and tidy. I started talking to her about the shop , how long shes been running it for etc. It turned out that she was the tattooist and the piercer had not yet arrived. So we waited some more. My mum was busy signing the forms whilst I was looking at the jewellery. I decided I would have a circular barbell fitted so I could flip it up in school.
The piercer finally arrived. She was a young piercer with lots of piercings (cheeks, bridge, septum, labret) and too many more to list! She greeted me and immediately leaded me into the piercing room. I asked her about the procedure and she explained it all to me including how she would go through the sweet spot and how she will place it, the gauge etc. I asked about having a circular barbell fitted because of school but she said they didn't have any. I had to leave it then because there was no way the school would allow it. I was really upset because I had been so exited about getting it done. The tattooist then turned around to her and said "We got some in yesterday."
Then the adrenaline first kicked in. Knowing that it would all definitely be happening got me nervous. I sat back down in the piercing seat and she asked me to face forward and lift my head up a bit. The piercer fiddled about with the clamps, getting it in the correct position and then the needle came out. Now I was shaking. She did not tell me about how to breath as she did I what worried me a little, but I knew how to anyway so it didn't hurt as much. She warned me she was about to pierce it. It hurt A LOT. She had already given me tissues because she told me my eyes were going to water what they did. It is a weird type of pain, bearable but only just. In a weird way it felt good. You can hear every layer of skin tear as it goes through. The needle was in and she followed the jewellery through. I looked in the mirror and was in love with it! She explained the cleaning procedure to me, I payed her the money and was off.
My mum hated it, my girlfriends first words were "How do you blow your nose." Bless her haha. But, most of my friends love it! Over all, I recommend this piercing to anybody and I think that if you can do the septum piercing you can do ANY piercing! Commitment were great but I cannot remember the piercers name (apologies!) but she was great. Thanks to BME also for giving me so many resources to prepare for the experience.
