(First of all I would like to start by saying this piercing was not properly done and it is a miracle that it even healed.) I have been a fan of the modified community since I was a young boy. When I was 16 I started by piercing my ears at the mall shortly after I had decided to start performing my own piercing's.(once again don't be like me.. Go to a professional!) That started with things such as second and third holes (all of which had become infected).

I still wanted more body adornment but I had no means of gaining more unless done by me. So for awhile I had tossed around the idea of a septum piercing, but I knew I would chicken out. One day while reading the old testament I decided to look through the back to see if I could find any stories about piercing's in the bible. I had stumbled upon one that I had particularly liked about God piercing's a women's nose as a sign of beauty. Up till then the nostril never seemed that cool of a piercing to have. I knew that it was against the rules of the school to have body jewelry in while attending. However I had already broken that and gotten into trouble for it so I figured why not. I had already purchased the clear 18gadge retainers needed for my nostril.

So I had looked in the mirror trying to figure out which side to do. I had eventually decided that a ring on the right side would look very nice. I had found a broken needle for a sowing machine on my floor and decided to use that for the initial piercing. I started by soaking everything in hydrogen peroxide for ten minutes. While that was cleaning I was washing the area of my nose to be pierced. After that I had put on a pair of latex gloves that were stolen from the cleaning office. Dotted the area to be pierced picked up the needle and retainer out of the peroxide and placed them on a paper towel to dry. After I had dried them I had to line the needle up to the dot with one hand and hold the nostril in place with the other. I took a deep breath and pushed the needle into the skin.

At fist it didn't want to go through only going in about half way. But I was gonna get it in and sure enough after a minute of pain I had the needle in the skin. Quickly I had picked up the retainer and pushed it through the hole. I had some trouble getting the retainer thought the back of the hole but I got that through as well.

about three days into the healing process I had noticed a significant amount of redness, swelling, and warmth in the area of the piercing. It had become horribly infected. I had removed the retainer and proceeded in pushing the puss out of the hole. Shortly after I had dabbed some peroxide on the hole I placed some new jewelry a simple 18gadge black horseshoe ring and went for a walk. This kind of thing went on for a few days till the infection had subsided. So I cleaned the clear retainer and placed in back in my nose. It took a few days for the infection to return. And a few more for it to go away.

Luckily a break was coming up so I could leave it in all day long not just some of the day like I was doing at school. During this time the infection had gone away and the piercing was really starting to heal up nicely. I was quite happy with it and so were my friends. Till I started to notice a bump forming on the inside of the nose. I had a keloid forming and It was a big one so day by day I had started picking at it. Till one day I noticed I had actually pulled the keloid out of the nose I was rather happy.

After that the nose ring from hell as I call it healed up fine with no more major problems. That was three months ago and since then I had stretched up to a 14gadge however I didn't like it that big so it is back to a 18 now. I am very pleased with how it turned out in the end. Regardless of all the problems with the piercing experience I am very glad I actually went through it. But next time I will be a lot smarter and simply wait till I can pay to have it done by a professional so I know it is the right way.
