I was just lucky mine turned out quite well :)
Ok so I know DIY is stupid and all that jazz. But I did it anyway.
I already have two diy ear lobes piercings which healed, after firstly being little bitches, quite nicely.
So next stop was my nostril.
I've wanted one for a while and loved the look of them, but of course being 15 my mother flat out said no. She said no to my ears too, but I did them and hid them for about 3 months until she found our (and she eventually got over it).
However i had a feeling nose would be a little different. She would literally have killed me. Well, not really.
More about that later.
Anyway.
I was sitting at home and I decided I really wanted it done. One of my mates at school did hers herself and it healed fine, so I thought, what the heck.
I got a needle from my mum's sewing kit. After doing my ears with just earring studs and having people looking at me horrified for it, I figured a needle would be better. Besides, have you ever tried to pierce your nose with a blunt stud? Trust me, it doesn't work. I burnt the end of the needle with my lighter, as I thought it would steralize it to some extent.
Yes I realize NOW that burning is actually worse for it.
I didn't know that at the time. Big mistake.
Anyway.
I then sprayed it with the kind of antiseptic you get when you get your lobes pierced with a gun at the chemist, thinking it wouldn't be bad for it.
I put heaps of vaseline on it, to try and help it glide through, picked a spot and started to push.
It hurt. It didn't feel like 'a good kind of hurt, man'. It was pretty painful but you soon forget the pain, so don't let that hold you back if you want it done. I put my other finger up my noes (eww) and I pressed the skin against the needle coming through from the other side.
It took a while initially, party because i was scared. About 3/4 of the way through it was hard, because i was trying to pierce the tough cartlidge. I just scrunched up my nose and gave it one last push.
I felt no pop or whatever, I just felt the sharpness of the needle hit my finger on the inside.
YAYYY! ITS THROUGH! she thoughteth.
So I grabbed an earring, burnt it, sprayed it with the antiseptic, and tried to shove it through the hole i'd just made.
Bad idea.
The needle T used got thicker as it got longer, so the tip which T pierced the inside side of my nostril piercing was much thinner, and hence the stud only got about 3/4 of the way.
So I took it out, pushed the needle in and pushed it down so the thicker part of the needle was in the piercing. this was hard..even though I used vaseline I had to get my whole hand on the end of the needle and try to shove it in. I discovered later that i pushed it a bit too far in the end, as the inside of my nose has a little hole on it (on the other side). Almost like half a septum piercing (Totally accidental, whooops!!). I left the needle in there for a while before putting the stud in, to try and stop it healing in the 5 seconds it took me to grab the stud.
Eventually I got the stud in no problems. (Yay!!!).
My nose was a bit red as expected but I went to bed that night with minimal discomfort and woke up the next morning with only a little puss around the area (which I cleaned away with a cotton bud).
Today, unfortunately, mum was coming home so I had to take the stud out and put a clear one in. I cut the disc of the clear one, so its just the spoke. You can hardly see it at all unless you're right up close and I point it out. Which I wont be doing.
Putting the clear stud in was PAINFUL and very hard. It was thicker than the stud I had in there and so I could hear it ripping as I pushed it in. Not good AT ALL. It's also 'heavier' I guess than the stud so it feels a little wierd. Not so much painful as I can just tell it's there. When I scrunch my nose, or flare my nostrils it hurts quite a bit but apart from that its ok.
All in all I think its healing ok, dispite being red and being interrupeted by changing studs. I soaked it in some salt water and it seems to be doing ok. I just hope I dont end up with horrible scarring or something...
I'll have to keep an eye on it. It's looking a bit angry at the moment, here's hoping!
Please note: DO NOT BURN THINGS AS STERALISATION!!! Very bad idea...if only I had known!
Go to a piercer would be my advice. And get your parents permission. It's a lot less tricky and a lot easier if anything goes wrong. :)
