This piercing actually happened yesterday! (May 4th)

I'd been meaning to get my septum pierced for absolutely years but never got the chance because I'd have to travel with one of my parents to get to the nearest piercing shop and they're not exactly the type of people that'd approve of it. But seeing now as I'm 17 and it's the legal age in most places for piercing's I'm free to do what I want with my body, and as well as that I'm doing working experience in the studio where I got my septum pierced, so why not?

The night before I went in for work experience I was debating with myself which piercing I should get next (either a smiley, a labret or a septum) and by the time I had shown up the next day I still hadn't decided. I had enough money for any of the three piercing's (60 quid) and just before I left to go home I suddenly blurted out to Sparrow that I wanted a septum, spur of the moment really, and we went upstairs to the studio to get it done. I was taking money out of my pocket to give to him and he told me to put it away; I was doing work experience so he said I could have free piercing's but I didn't want him losing money over me. Anyway, he asked if I knew what he was going to do as a procedure (I had sat around watching other people getting certain piercing's so I had a good grasp of it) and I said yes, and he went straight on to cleaning my nose out with swabs and solution. He explained some things to me like aftercare and told me about the 'sweet-spot' in a person's septum. Now, I'd heard about this before so I wasn't too worried about pain; I figured if he pierced it properly it wouldn't be anywhere near as bas as getting my nose pierced (which personally for me was the worst piercing pain-wise) but I'll explain this later.

He told me it might bleed a little bit (which I doubted; I was always told my other piercing's would bleed a lot when I got them but they didn't) and he checked my nose and felt the cartilage as to where the needle would go in, in a way it felt like he was about to rip my nose off! Then he used an alcohol wipe and cleaned out my nose, and got the needle ready. After that he was looking everywhere for the septum clamps and couldn't find them for a while, when he found them he showed me them and then decided he'd do it free-hand (I'd read before that the clamps can sometimes hurt more than the actual piercing so I wasn't too bothered about him not using them), which I was alright with. He checked my nose again and lined up the needle. At this point I wasn't actually too scared about getting the piercing because I've had 3 other facial piercing's before this and like I said, I didn't think it'd be anywhere near as painful as getting my nose. As he lined up the needle he told me to take a deep breath in, and then he'd push the needle through when I exhaled, which he did, and fuck me, was it sore. He jiggled it a bit to squeeze it through to the other side and that was the worst part, but when it finally came out the other side the pain slowly went away. I checked in the mirror and it looked funny as hell , with me with a big needle stuck through my face. He snipped off excess needle and then proceeded to pushing a ring through, which wasn't as bad as the actual needle going through, but it bled quite a bit more than I'd have ever expected. For a second I thought the blood running into my mouth was snot or something, but he gave me a tissue and I cleaned some of it up. The ring was put through and I checked in the mirror again and I instantly fell in love with my new piercing, I'm glad I picked it over a labret or smiley. He cleaned up the rest of the blood with an alcohol wipe and said he'd avoid going near the hole because it'd sting like a mother fucker, which, thankfully, he didn't.

I thanked him and seeing as he wouldn't take money I tipped him, and left. My sister and mam were waiting downstairs and they almost had a cow when they saw it but they got used to it very quick, but that doesn't mean they like it!

If you've read through all that and you're looking to get a septum piercing I didn't mean to put you off in any way, everybody has different pain thresholds and different experiences when getting their septum done so don't base it on mine alone, look around a few more stories and then get it done for yourself so you know what it's like! I think the main reason it was sore for me was either because he didn't use clamps or because he didn't hit the sweet-spot, but it didn't bother me at all because in the end it was worth it.
