So, I had be wanting a septum for a long time. Though at first, like many, I had not liked them. I didn't really think they were strange, just there was something about the initial look of them. They only soon grew on me and I thought they were quite neat. I mean, its nice to have a piercing that can be visible one moment and hidden the next.

I had just gotten my pay check and had some money to spend. I had been wanting one for over a year, so I just to go ahead since I hadn't had a piercing in over 8 months. I also figured since one of my navel piercings had reject a few weeks prior (unfortunately if I might add) that I needed to replace it, what logic huh? The reason I decided to go to Living Arts is because of the fact that my roommate is the piercer there, so I honestly wanted to go there cause thats how she makes her money. So I went inside and she already knew why I was there so I just asked if they had proper jewelry for my septum. They really didn't have what I was looking for so I left and went elsewhere to buy some jewelry. I settled with a I came back and she began the sterilization process. I'm very anal with piercings and have to see everything be sterilized and such. Better to be safe than sorry, ya know?
After waiting a while we finally begun the procedure I've been waiting for. So she cleaned my nose and such and then the fun began. I was very difficult with making sure that she had found my sweet spot. So I spent maybe 20 minutes making sure we marked it correctly. I'm honestly glad I decided to totally make sure. She clamped me, which honestly for the first time ever hurt a little. I inhaled and exhaled and didn't feel a thing and it was over. There was a small amount of bleeding but it was no biggie. I was so surprised that it didn't hurt. I have read a many experiences and in many people said that they hurt.
She inserted the sterilized 16g curved barbell that I purchased and it was all done. I checked it and it wasn't crooked! I was very very pleased and proud of my roommate and her piercing, for it was only the second septum she has done. I gladly tipped her $10 and paid the piercing fee. It was cheaper than I expected cause I had brought in my own jewelry so I was kinda happy about that. So total I spent $40 including the $10 tip. By the way...always tip your piercer! Right after I got it and went outside it felt like my nose was contently watering but it was just cause the jewelry was cold.
The aftercare really isn't that difficult. Though it is a little hard to get antibacterial soap and such up in there to clean. Sea salt soak are a cinch, I just filled a shot glass with my salt and water mixture and use a cotton swab to apply it to my piercing. There isn't any swelling and it honestly isn't sore or anything which is great! Also make sure that you clean this piercing well, even though infection is rare if it get infected it can be very serious. Make sure you are cleaning this piercing a few times daily!
Since I have a job I had to hide it. When I returned home I found that the jewelry wouldn't flip up, so I ended up having to remove the balls off my circular barbell to be able to pull that off. No one noticed I had one a work, only one person told me that I had a booger in my nose but I soon showed them that it definitely wasn't one. HA.
I also learned that you really shouldn't smoke with this type of piercing. Though since I do smoke I try to make sure that I'm not blowing smoke out of my nose. I don't want all that tar and junk up in my piercing. So I've made sure to clean it well so far.
If you are really considering a septum piercing I would recommend it highly, I also would recommend Steph as your piercer. Its easy to hide if thats what you're worried about. Though I would make sure that you trust your piercer, thats very important!
Its a great experience and don't worry about the pain, its the suspense that kills ya!
I can't wait to gauge this piercing and be able to put some crazy jewelry in it.
