Septum piercing, the most beautiful of them all. I had decided a long time ago that I wanted to get a septum piercing, but I was far too much of a chicken to actually go forward and do this. However, a few weeks ago I was hooked on the thought. I figured that if I could go through two nose piercings, a septum would be a walk in the park! Well let me tell you this. It was!
At A Glance Author Brienna Contact Brienna@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Shell Studio Esoterik Location Calgary, Alberta I had e-mailed Shell a few weeks back, telling her how I wanted my septum done and I would like the general information. I.e. The pricing, the pain factor compared to my nose rings, etc. I had then found out that the studio I go to was broken in to and literally everything was wiped out; all the equipment, jewelry, tattoo stuff, cameras, all of it. Good thing they were insured! She told me that it would be at least two weeks until her new septum clamps and retainers came in. I was a bit disappointed, but she told me that since I have to wait she would knock down the price from $65 to $50. Awe, what a doll!
So I waited. I love Shell, she's a great artist. I didn't want to go to another piercing studio where I didn't know or trust the people. Besides, I needed to get money first! I have no job right now, and no way to earn money. I thought I'd never be able to get my piercing done, until a friend offered to pay in exchange for a date! Whoo!
So until the day arrived I was bouncy and excited, ready to go. Shell received her septum clamps and I found myself walking to the studio with a slurpee, very nervous. I am very scared of needles. Not so much the pain, but just the thought of a needle going through my body. Whatever, I'm a wuss. So I walked in, signed the release form, and waited. About 45 minutes later my friend and I were taken into the small room and I was propped up on the table. Shell and I made conversation about the retainer and flipping it, my piercing pet peeves, the new jewelry for my nose rings, and all that crazy stuff nobody here really cares about! Her piercing apprentice was going to watch my septum be done as he had never seen it before. The only downfall was that since she was explaining everything, the process went a bit slowly. No biggy, I'm a tuff girl.
We were all set to go. I laid myself down on the table, a bit nervous. Shell laughs and tells me how adorable and cute I am. She tests out the clamps first so I can see how they feel. Clamps are always the easy part. She tells me to breathe with her. Now up to this point I sort of forgot why I was even at the studio. As I breathe in, I think to myself "Oh shit! Here comes the needle!" I breathe out, and I feel the needle rip through each and every layer of skin in my nose. I twitch a little bit. It was sort of like a strong pinch. Bearable, of course! Now for the worst part; the jewelry. She pulls it through and it feels as if I just got my septum pierced all over again, followed by a huge slap across the nose. Ouch! Thank god it's over with! In the end, there was hardly any pain. Nothing you can't handle. But then again, I have very soft cartilage and a soft nose so my experiences generally go a lot smoother than others. I sit up and wipe away the few physical tears that came (you know, where your body cries even though you don't need to? Hah!)
I go over to the mirror. I love it! Shell shows me how to clean it and flip it up. Good thing too! I can't be showing my mom this anytime soon! My friend and I walk to the movie theatre and I change my nose rings into small balls and flip down my septum. It's absolutely gorgeous. I am definitely in love. It stings a little, but a pleasurable sting. An "Oh my gosh, do it again!!!" sting.
If you're considering getting your septum done, I suggest you go for it. In the end, you will love it and it will become your new favourite piercing. Remember that it hurts for only a second and than it feels like nothing even happened. It's a beautiful feeling. So do it up! <3
Sorry for the lack of a good picture right now. I just got this done, after all!
