I have always wanted a facial piercing, but my parents (being as strict as they are) wouldn't let me. My best friend at the time, Sami, had her nostril pierced. I liked it so much I decided to pierce mine myself. I closed my eyes, took a "starter" earing, and shoved it right through..Or so I thought. I opened my eyes and looked in the mirror. It wasn't even halfway through! I put one finger in my nose, and another on the earing and pushed, but nothing happened. I did this for hours upon hours, hoping it would just slide right through, but that wasn't the case. After two days of trying to get this earing through the last layer of cartlidge, I gave up. I ripped the earing out and decided to let it heal so I could attempt once again. A week later, I tried again. The same thing happend. By this time, I was beyond frustrated, and completely gave up for about a month.
At A Glance Author Jen When A year ago Artist Kathy Studio Kuttersedge Location Cannonsburgh (PIttsburgh), Pennsylvania It was the last nine weeks of the school year, and my mom and I were out shopping. She was in a very good mood, so I decided to butter her up, and bribe her into letting me get my nostril pierced, professionally. At first she was completely against it, but I fought to get my own way. I promised her for the last nine weeks I would make high honors and be able to take honors courses the following year. My grades at the time weren't super low, so I knew if I actually set my mind to it, I would achieve. And this I did!
It was (finally) the end of the last nine weeks, so we got our report cards in the mail. I saw it and was super stoked that I actually did it. I shoved it in my mom's face and said "there! now let's go!" She didn't hesitate, at all, which was surprising.
We got in the car, picked up Sami, and were finally on our way to Kuttersedge. I knew Kathy (the owner) would do a good job, and I trusted her with all my heart. (Considering she did my tragus and rook very well.) We arrived at the studio and my heart was going a mile a minute. We filled out the papers, and she called me in the back. I stood up, took a deep breath and (Sami and I) followed her into one of the two rooms she pierces in. I sat down on the chair, and she took a marker to where she thought a good place was. She washed her hands, put on gloves, and got out all the utensils she needed to use. After ever procedure (opening packages for the needles, ring, ect.) she washed her hands and used a new pair of gloves, so I knew she was being completely sanitary.
She clamped my nose, and shoved a long, metal-looking thing up it. She told me to take a deep breath and close my eyes. Before I knew it, I felt a slight pinch and opened my eyes real fast. She looked at me and said "you're done!" I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe I was actually nervous. I ran to the mirror and admired it for literally five minutes. Out of all the piercings I currently have, the nose was probably the less painful of the few. After a few months of only having one facial piercing, I decided that wasn't enough. I decided to pierce the other side of my nose myself, and then eventually my monroe. I now have double nostril, monroe, tragus, rook, 1/2 plugs, and industrial. I plan on taking my monroe out very soon, though.
Basically, getting your nostril pierced is a piece of cake. It is a tiny pinch that lasts for literally two seconds. It was well worth it. Yes, all people are different and some have higher pain-tolerances, but in this case, I do not fall under that category. Nostril piercings are definitely very quick and virtually pain-free. Get it done if you're thinking about it, you definitely won't regret it!
The only thing that sucks about getting your nostril pierced is how long it takes to fully heal. Your piercer may tell you 6-8 months or so, but for me it was definitely longer. Mine didn't fully hear for a good year. I remember trying to change it exactly 6 months after I got it pierced, and it definitely wasn't a good feeling. So, I'd suggest you waiting at least 10 months to change yours, just to be safe. So make sure you get a ring/stud you plan on keeping for a while!
I can finally change mine, thank gosh. It was very exciting when I could finally go out and buy any studs I wanted to wear, and take them out with no problem. Good luck!
