I'd wanted my nose pierced since the tender age of 5... I'd been inspired by many people from my favourite bands, and off the television and even some people that my parents knew.

I already had three piercings in each ear, and I plan to get several other facial piercings. Over recent months, I begged and begged my parents to let me get my nose pierced. My Mum was horrified at the idea, but my Dad was a bit more understanding, and he said that once I got offered a place at my choice of college, then I could have it done. So when I did get offered a place, I was over the moon. No-one could stop me now!

On the day of the piercing, I met up with three of my closest friends who wanted to come with me. I decided to get my nose pierced at Area 51 in Basingstoke, because they have had excellent reviews, and everyone I know that has had a piercing done there have all had excellent results, and no major problems.

We walked into Area 51, and I asked the bloke at the counter how much it was to have my nose done. He said it would cost fifteen pounds, so I asked him if I could have it done, and he gave me a form to fill out and all that. One of the questions that was on the form asked me if I bruised easily, which I replied yes to. When I gave the form back to the guy, he asked me what would happen if he pinched me fairly gently. I said that it wouldn't bruise, and he said it was okay and proceeded.

It was only a couple of miniutes later until a girl with several facial piercings and tattoos came out, and asked me to follow her into one of the piercing rooms. The girl, who's name was Tamsin, said that only one of my friends could come into the room with me, because the room wasn't really big enough for all five of us to fit in. So one of them came in with me, the one who will be getting her nose pierced soon too. I looked back at my other two friends as I was walking in with a terrified expression on my face, which made them laugh.

When we got into the room, Tamsin told me to take a seat on the doctor's seat/bed type thing. I chose what stud I wanted- they didn't have a normal silver ball, which was what I origianally wanted, so I chose one with a blue gem in. Tamsin then put some gloves on and wiped my nose with a strong disinfectant, which made my eyes water. She then marked me up, and told me to check in the mirror to see if it was okay. I was happy with the placement of it, so I sat back down. I closed my eyes because I could still feel my eyes watering, but only slightly. I grabbed my friend's hand- I was bricking it by now! Tamsin then said she was going to put a tube up my nose for a second, which I thought was going to clean the inside of my nose or something, because she said only for a second. So I let go of my friend's hand... only to experience a very sharp pain: she had shoved the needle through my nose! I still had my eyes closed, and I grabbed my friend's hand again. By now my eyes were watering terribly. I felt her twist the stud into my nose. When she said that it had been done, I opened my eyes and immediatley admired it in the mirror. It looked really, really nice!

Tamsin gave me a sheet on how to clean it, I payed her and thanked her, and went to greet my other friends outside. I could have sworn I was in that little room less than five minuites, it was quite a shock to have it all over and done with so quickly!

A week on, I still love my piercing, and have only experienced very minor pain, which I think is where my nose is still getting used to the stud. I haven't cleaned it as much as I think I should do, but I've had no problems with it so far, so I'll just have to wait and see. As I said, I plan to get several other facial piercings in the near future, hopefully my lip next.

If you're looking to get your nose pierced, I say go for it because it dosen't matter about the pain, chances are it won't hurt that much. Even though it hurt me quite a bit, I guess it depends on your pain threshold, because mine is pretty low. And it looks fantastic!
