OK so I decided I was gonna go with a double nostril done at a 14 gauge with captive bead rings about a month ago. First I'll explain why I wanted two captive bead rings in my right nostril. I have snakebites and I wanted a nostril piercing. But I did not just want one single nostril piercing and to have one on each side would just be ridiculous with the snakebite arrangement on the lip. It would be overly semetrical and I can't deal with that at all. I don't think it shows personality. I like tattoos and piercings to have some sort of character or expression and not just a uniform grouping of things. OK I need to stop rambling about that.
At A Glance Author Jess Alon Contact Jess Alon@bme.anon IAM jessalon When A month ago Artist Amy Studio Twisted Images Location Louisville KY I went to Twisted images where I get my tattoos and piercings done overall with the exception of some lobe scalpelling I did elsewhere. I told Amy what I wanted and we talked about placement and such and then she went back to get the room ready. She likes to prepare everything before you go back because the room is a bit confined. So she sets it up so that everything is ready to go and then brings you back. I kind of like it. You're ready to do it the second you get in there or you can chit chat a little bit and then get down to it.
I get in the room and she's got the table read for me and she asks me to lay on my back on the table. I thought it was kind of unusual because I got my septum pierced twice in Maryland's Mystic Piercing and both times i did it sitting up in a chair. She told me it's easier to do this piercing laying down... so I just went along with it. I really trust Amy a lot. She's a Christian and so am I and I just kind of feel a bond with other Christians. So I laid back and she started with the alcohol and swabbing and prepping the nostril. Keep in mind traditionally this piercing is done at 20 or 18 gauge. She went over and grabbed her stuff and got me ready.
There I was preparing for what should be an easy piercing. I breathe in and out deeply. And then again. Then I breathe in and hold it and and as I start to breathe out. BAM! Agony. Pain. Not enough for my endorphins to handle. I felt it. The needle slides through and tears are pouring out of my eyes and I'm holding my hands out beside me. I just decide I should grab the sides of the table and start focusing heavily on the breathing. She starts to explain that the nostril at a higher gauge is way worse then a septum piercing. The jewelry pops through. I'm wincing and it's worse then any tattoo or piercing I've had so far. To make matters worse the membrane of my inner nostril was getting caught on the jewelry making it even harder and more painful to get the jewelry in place. It finally slid through. I was praising God that it was over.
Then here comes the second one. I didn't protest at all. I just clenched the table's sides in my hands and breathed as deeply and slowly as possible. All the same things happened in combination with the searing pain from the first piercing. She got the beads in and turn them the way I wanted them. And one ring's diameter was bigger then the other and it had a cool cascade look to it. It was a different look for me. I sat up and looked in the mirror and loved it. And turned to Amy and said "Don't worry... me and you are still friends." And I'm pretty sure I gave her a hug. It was painful but none the less an amazing experience. I imagined how much it would hurt if it was someone I didn't trust doing it. Because I would be on edge. And I would feel more pain from not being comfortable. You need to be comfortable with who pierces you or it can be miserable and never a positive experience.
They are about healed up and I look forward to getting the big rings out and getting a pair of 14 gauge nosebones and put in. Generally "nosebones" come in 20 and 18 gauge and I'm looking to chase down something that is at 14G. I definitely don't want a fishtail or a flat back stud because they will be right on top of each other if I put them in and I'd rather not face that discomfort in order to achieve a certain look with my nostril piercings. Well that's about all I have to say and thank you for reading. Have a great night and God bless.
