I have been into body piercing for about 5 years now. I have wanted to pierce my septum for just about as long. I had originally planned on piercing it at about a 10ga and stretching it up to a 0ga or 00ga over a period of a few years. I thought that the experience would not only do well for me physically and mentally, but spiritually as well. However, I didn't want to jump into something that I didn't know anything about.

I started reading stories on stretching the septum on various websites to see what the general consensus was from other people on how painful, expensive, and time-consuming such an undertaking would be. I knew it would be fairly costly because I had already run through a gauging experience with my lobes from 20ga to 1"ga over a period of about 2 years. Very fun experience, but the toll it took on my pocket book wasn't so enjoyable.

The stories I read expressed painful experiences, some even saying that it was like getting the piercing over and over again. The complications with the gauging of a septum were dissuading for me. I didn't want to run the risk of a major infection or migraines every time I got a new gauge in my nose, and I definitely didn't want to take out the piercing as a result.

Yesterday I thought about doing it, as I have done every day for almost the last 6 months. I decided that I still wanted a big gauge. However, I didn't want to put that much time and money into it. I discussed it with my boss at Warm Art Tattoo & Body Piercing, and he seemed hesitant to go with the stretching as well. I had only one alternative: I had to dermal punch my septum, and not just any dermal punch, a 2ga hole right off the bat.

Right when I thought about it I got nervous. The thought of a pen size punch going through my nose was both exciting and a little jarring. I toyed with the idea of not doing it, but knew that even at that point it was too late. My high anxiety made it feel like my first piercing all over again. Seeing the punch itself didn't help much.

I sat down on the work table and focused on breathing, just as I had seen my boss tell so many of his customers. I closed my eyes and tried to bring myself to a meditative state. The adrenaline was pumping, my heart was going a mile a minute, and I could feel some of the color draining from my face. No turning back now.

Well, I don't know whether my boss dragged out the preparation on purpose or not, but it felt like forever. Let me tell you, having your boss stick his fingers in your nose is definitely an odd experience. He checked and re-checked my nose and the position of the ring over and over again. Part of me loved the suspense, but mostly I just wanted it done and over with.

Finally he put the punch in my nose, bracing the other side with his finger. He asked if I was ready, and I instinctively took one more deep breath. But as soon as he pushed that punch in, I suddenly forgot how to breathe for a couple seconds.

I cannot deny that fact that it was a very painful experience. I felt very lightheaded for a bit, and I felt the color rush back into my face as he pushed it through my septum. All my focus was on my nose, the experience almost pausing life for a moment.

As soon as the punch went through the other side, my adrenaline levels exploded, rushing through my entire body like a torrent as soon as it was no longer needed for the piercing. Honestly, I'm sure I can speak for a lot of piercing junkies when I say one of the most euphoric feelings you can ever feel is the first 30 seconds after the actual piercing is finished. I felt like an entirely new person.

He slid the ring in, and then the blood started. My boss had me tuck a towel in the collar of my shirt before he started, and for good reason. I had blood all over my face and all over the towel. My only regret about bleeding that much, is that we didn't manage to get a picture of it. The clean up process took a while and then the tough part came: putting the continuous part of the ring in.

I had to lie down on the bench and my boss opened up the ring up with a giant ring opener, and one of the other shop workers ended up having to gloves up to put the actual section of the ring in. Once again, an interesting experience. Finally got it in, and then another clean up.

I was ecstatic. Adrenaline rush from hell with a perfectly straight piercing that not only felt good, but looked badass. Good results from now screwing around. Sometimes good things come to those wait, but in my opinion, better things come with sudden pain and lots of blood.
