I got my septum pierced today and it's super cute. I can't stop looking at it in the mirror. It was kind of a troublesome piercing, but I'm glad that I got it done. I think it will be a good piercing for me because I can hide it if I need to for a job interview or whatever. (Kind of lame, I know but I gotta pay the bills.)

First of all, I have an ugly scar on the back of my ear from a cartilage piercing that got infected so I was a little leery about how my body would react to a facial piercing. I'd be pretty upset if I have a giant scar hanging out of my nose. That would suck and would be pretty damn unattractive. So I talked with the piercer and she said that I should be okay if I just monitor the piercing and make sure that if it's getting infected, I take the jewelry out. Plus, it is a different kind of tissue inside the nose so hopefully it will be okay.
The other reason I wasn't sure about it is that my boyfriend doesn't find piercings attractive so he was sort of against it. He thought that a septum piercing would make my face too symmetrical and weird looking but we talked it out and I convinced him that the worst that can happen is I end up taking it out. I thought long and hard about it and after many a discussion with the boy, and a bit of research, I decided to have it done.
I was really excited and I wanted to go right away but I had a fresh tattoo and was advised not to get pierced right away because my immune system could be a little low. So better to be safe than sorry, I waited a little over a week before getting it done. I had been looking at pictures of septum piercings online for a while and decided that I wanted just a simple ring with one ball and a small gauge to keep it feminine looking. I figure once it heals up a bit I will go back and get a smaller ring put in that will sit closer to my nose and I can always buy a retainer if need be to hide it.
So I got to the piercing shop and the whole thing probably only took about 15 minutes. Today is Sunday so there weren't a lot of people in there so it was pretty laid back and quiet. I filled out the little bit of paperwork and my piercer, Autumn helped me pick out jewelry. I'm usually pretty shy but we both go to the same little art school so I was pretty relaxed and it was easy to talk. After holding the rings up by my nose, I decided on a 16 gauge instead of a 14.
We went back to the piercing room and she marked some dots with purple crap and cleaned up inside of my nose with Q-tips and disinfectant stuff. The disinfectant smelled terrible. I lay down on the little table and she lined everything up and pierced it through. It hurt way less than any of my ear piercings so I was pretty stoked about that...until she said that one side was higher than the other and she wanted to go back in and fix it. I got up and looked in the mirror and sure enough it was a little crooked so I let her re-do the one side. The second time hurt way more and my eyes were all watery but it went fast and I wasn't too worried about it...until she said that it was crooked again.
She said that she would try one more time and then leave it alone so I said okay and hoped the third time was the charm. Even though it hurt pretty bad the third time and my eyes watered like crazy, my piercing looked great in the end. I think she felt bad about having to poke me so many times but I understand that sometimes shit happens and I'd rather have it perfect than crooked like so many other septum piercings I've seen. She cleaned it up and we discussed aftercare a little bit and she told me to come back in a couple weeks to get a smaller ring put in. She gave knocked the price down because of the mishap so that was a decent compensation for a little bit of extra pain.
Overall I'm pretty happy although my boyfriend says it's too far forward so I'll have to ask Autumn about that. I think once I get a smaller ring in there it will look perfect.
